WPlus9 | Pencil Colored Ranunculus Bouquet Thank You Card

Hello, friends! I hope you are having a great stamping week! Today, similar to a previous project I posted, I’m sharing a pencil colored and heat embossed thank you card.

I will say that you do need to use a stamp positioner tool to be able to complete this project, you can try to make it without it, but it’s one of those techniques where MISTI or a Stamp Platform is a must have for best results.

I stamped Ranunculus Bouquet in Fairy Dust ink color onto light blue cardstock using my Stamp platform. I picked a very light color of ink as I wanted to do a no-line coloring and thus didn’t want the ink color to show through the pencil coloring. I knew I’d be heat embossing over my colored piece so in the end it won’t actually be a no-line image, but to be safe (in case a little offset happened) I picked a light color of ink for my stamping.

Since I am so fond of my Polychromos pencils these days I used them to color this stunning floral image. There’s actually a story about these pencils and about how I got them. Read below:

Last year I was invited to go on a crafty retreat in Ohio, one of the fun things that girls do at the retreat is a (nice) White Elephant gift exchange. This was new to me as we don’t do this kind of gift exchange in my country, so I was very excited to participate. I was second to last to pick the gift and since I didn’t really feel confident enough to steal a gift from somebody else I picked one that was still wrapped. The gift happened to be from Dawn, the owner of WPlus9, and it was the most special gift ever – the very set of Polychromos pencils I’ve been loving and using lately! What a fantastic coincidence, right? Thank you, Dawn!

The reason I picked this image, Ranunculus, and the light blue background for my card is because I wanted to try to color with pinks (I’ve been enjoying various colors from my set, but can’t say I’ve really explored the pinks yet). I colored flowers using 3 pencils – Rose Carmine (the one true pink in my set), White (to add highlights) and Magenta (to add shadows). I am so happy I have a smaller 36 set of pencils instead of the full 120 (which I do plan to get on at some point as these pencils are simply fantastic) because this pushes and forces me to explore my pencils deeper. Had I had 3 shades of pink I’d use them to color flowers instead of learning how to use a white pencil to add highlights.

The same goes for greenery. I used a green pencil and a dark gray pencil to color the leaves you see on this card. I first colored in green and next used gray to add shadows and deepen the green.

Once my coloring was done (and I slacked a bit when I got to the flower centers so there is not much detail there) I replaced my piece inside my Stamp Platform, stamped the same image in the same spot using clear embossing ink and heat set it with Simon Says Stamp Antique Gold embossing powder. I used same powder to heat emboss the sentiment and the edges around my panel.

Finally, I foam mounted my piece onto an A2 card base made out of Coal Mine cardstock. By the way, if you are not into colored pencils, you can color this image using other coloring mediums. I have a video tutorial showing how I colored it with Daniel Smith watercolors. Check it out here.
