Hello everyone! This is a busy week for sure! With the World Cardmaking Day last Saturday and new releases my head just can’t keep spinning, lol! With the busy schedule we didn’t travel anywhere this past weekend (did some shopping instead and packed a box of gifts to send home to our parents), but I did enjoy a few hours at the pool reading the scrapbook murder-mystery book (check out THIS post to learn more about this book series, I’m loving it!).

Today I’d like to share a card along with a video tutorial I created for WPlus9 blog. I’ve been discovering more new fantastic products from this company and I couldn’t wait to use them on my projects.

The two new things I discovered from WPlus9 are Oatmeal and Dove Gray cardstock colors. The first one has little fibers embedded into it making it PERFECT for simple cards. I used to not like papers like this, I was all pro-white only, not even cream. But now I’m really enjoying these specialty papers, they add so much a simple card design and just make your projects pop.

VIDEO TUTORIAL – NO MASKING LAYERED FLORAL BACKGROUND

I’ve created a video tutorial where I am sharing everything in detail. You can watch it below or on my Youtube channel.

CARD DETAILS

This card features simple layered stamping without any masking. I know I always say simple and it looks like its not simple at all, it looks complicated and very involved – it’s not, trust me. This card is pure simplicity that involves just a bit of stamping.

I used the most beautiful Freehand Florals stamp set (check out THIS post for another example and video using this stamp set) I started by stamping base layers (bottom most solid layers) of images to “sketch out” the layout.

I’ve found that it takes less time to stamp base layers first rather than go ahead and stamp each element (flower or leaf) from start to finish. Be sure to watch my video tutorial to see what I mean.

I made sure to leave some empty space on the card to accommodate a sentiment. With a floral design like this one any sentiment works great.

I went with a simple “You Are One of a Kind” and heat embossed it in white onto Dove Gray cardstock. The “You” was also die cut out of Dove Gray paper and was foam mounted using Scrapbook Adhesive’s Foam Adhesive sheets.

Having flowers and just the sentiment already makes this card beautiful and eye catching. But if you’d like to take it one step further you can create a trellis-like background with the help of heat embossing and non-watermark embossing ink. Watch my tutorial to learn how to stamp this background without the need of masking. But do make sure to use non watermark ink.
