I myself have lots going on today starting with the World Cardmaking Day Celebration with Simon Says Stamp! It is always a treat to receive an invitation from Simon to join one of their exclusive events and I was delighted to join this one where several cardmakers from all over the world were tasked to create a project using same stamp set.
I love challenges like this as they really show how diverse and unique our creativity is. Be sure to pop over to Simon’s blog to see what everyone else has created, I can’t wait to see other cards!
Inspired by my recent projects showcasing coloring using a single pen or pencil, I wanted to find additional, simple ways to color images without much effort. For these cards I settled on using my Nuvo Drops in White, Clear and Red for a classic Red, Gold and Blue Christmas color combination.
This handmade card uses Nuvo Drops as a coloring medium. Want to see 4 other ways you can use Nuvo Drops from Tonic Studios in card making? Check out this article – 5 Ways to Use Nuvo Drops.
I gold heat embossed ornament, string and sentiment from Ornate Ornaments set on Island Blue cardstock and blended Hero Arts Navy ink around the edges to darken the paper (I wanted to use much darker paper for this project, but Island Blue is the darkest I currently have in my stash, so I used what I had). This gave me a beautiful spotlight in the center where my ornament was and darker, deeper blue paper around it.
I adhered my panels onto A2 white side-folding card bases and next used Nuvo Drops to selectively color circles on these ornaments. I went with Morning Dew, White and Red Berry colors. For my last project I combined all three for a multi color ornament.
I also sprayed it with Hero Arts Iridescent Shimmer mist for some shine. I added red and white bakers twine bow to the other cards to dress them up.

I filmed a short video clip showing how I made these cards and posted it on my IGTV account. You can access it from my profile page on Instagram (must do so using your phone, it doesn’t display on desktop).

Wonderful cards! The nuvo drops colouring is so cool And I love the spotlight on the ornament with your darker outside background!!
Oh they just pop on that beautiful blue background! I am off to watch your video
SO PRETTY, Yanna!!!! LOVE the way the Nuvo Drops look with the embossing & your rich background! 😉 BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!
Yana, your cards are strikingly gorgeous! I’ve always loved your cards and these are so wonderful. Simple but elegant! Thanks for sharing with us.
Beautiful! I love the blue card base and the clean and simple design with a hint of color!
Such a pretty and clever idea!
So very pretty! I love how you deepened the blue around the outside of the card and allowed the inside of the ornament to remain lighter!
These are really stunning CAS cards.
Love your idea! Nice and simple with only a few supplies, yet look fantastic! Wonderful!
Beautiful cards and I love the coloring with the drops.
I agree … simple yet elegant cards! Bravo!!!
Awesome Christmas cards, Yana! Love the Nuvo Drops idea!
Your’re card is so Gorgeous card that I had to order to stamp set.
Yana, these are just stunning. I love how your ornaments “glow”! Just stunning.
Gorgeous! Love the background and the spotlight effect. The gold looks so classy on the dark navy. I never would have thought to “colour” an image just with nuvo drops but I quite like it. I don’t think it would work for every image but it looks amazing with these ornaments. I’ll have to keep this idea in the back of my mind
These are gorgeous Yana. Love the simplicity of the design but the detail of the ornament(s) really makes a statement. Beautifully done.
Wow! Amazing Xmas cards!!!
What a great use for Nuvo Drops! Made for some beautiful but fairly simple cards – ones that could be mass produced. Thanks for the inspiration!
