CARD DETAILS
I made a card and a bookmark (sharing below) using the new Layering Woodgrain and Books and Coffee stamps. I had lots of fun playing with the layering woodgrain set and made a background for this card (this is a smaller 4 Bar card although the stamp is designed to cover the front of an A2 card).
I used Simon’s Khaki and Dark Chocolate inks to stamp (and did my stamping using mini MISTI) and offset the top layer slightly to have a bit of white showing. This stamp set has two layers which can be used together (like I did on my card) or separately. When used separately they look especially beautiful on colored cardstock.
I also used a few images from the Books and Coffee set. I stamped a stack of books, a racoon, a cup of coffee and potted cactus is Simon’s Intense black ink and colored images using my favorite Copic markers combos (I’m listing exact colors I used below in my “Supplies” section).
There’s a set of coordinating dies available so I used those to cut images out in my Platinum die cutting machine. I arranged die cuts on a strip of white cardstock and foam mounted in place. Next, I stamped my sentiment “Happiness is a cup of coffee and a good book”. This set also has a word “tea” to use instead of “coffee” and an image of a tea bag if you a tea drinker. I like both drinks equally, so this time I went with coffee.
I foam mounted my banner onto the card (I cut one end into a V-shape) and that finished my card.
HAND STAMPED BOOKMARK
The Books & Coffee stamp set is also a great one for creating bookmarks. I love to read (I’m a huge fan of Laura Childs’ Scrapbook Mysteries) and I always try to read for at least an hour or two on the weekends. Needless to say I never have a decent bookmark for my books (and I either use a piece of paper or fold the corners of the pages) so I was happy to sit down and make myself a bookmark.
I chose to use the deer image and I die-cut, stamped and colored it on a piece of white cardstock to create my bookmark. I made it slightly larger with a lot of white space I can use to write down notes or observations as I am reading.
I’m hoping to test my new bookmark this weekend but I can say right away – I love the way it turned out!
If you also love to read and you like detective stories check out Laura Childs Mysteries. I’m finishing the last book and anxiously awaiting a new one that is due to come out this October. I mentioned these books last year on my blog, this is what I wrote:
Last fall I was given a Scrapbook Murder Mystery book to read – Parchment & Old Lace by Laura Childs. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I enjoyed that book so much I am now reading my 4th book from the Scrapbook Murder Mysteries series from Laura Childs. I do find these books and stories very enjoyable and the bonus scrapbooking info is so much fun!
So now I’ve read all of books from this series and I’m actually re-reading the last one just for fun.
