This card was not colored using Copics. It just dawned on me the other day – if it’s so risky to color with Copic markers over heat embossing (something I still don’t mind doing, but I know a lot of you do), why not find another, different medium that will not be affected by the embossing powder when colored over it.

CARD DETAILS

I’ve had these waterproof brush pens from Jane Davenport ever since they came out earlier this year and I haven’t really used them much. I did use a black pen here and a red pen for an upcoming post, but I never really considered them as a coloring medium. Until today. There aren’t a lot of colors, I have 6 in my stash (and I think that’s it), but it’s enough for some accent coloring such as this.

The stamp set I used to make this card is a new exclusive collaboration set from Simon Says Stamp and The Greeting Farm, part of STAMPtember 2019. To create this card I masked 1/4″ off each edge of a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2″ Fog panel, next I arranged images in my MISTI creating 4 rows of critters and sentiment with a fireplace in the center. I heat embossed all in Antique Gold embossing powder and colored.

I used red, black and brown (for the fireplace, although it looks almost like black) pens from Jane Davenport, white Sakura pen in all 3 sizes and a YR07 Copic marker (for the fire and beaks). A white pen and non-white background are essential for a design such as this one as it not only lets you color some sections of the images white (and that’s why you need to start on a non-white background, light gray works best) but also add patterns to clothing.

While this card is super simple, I really like how it turned out. It’s clean, it’s modern, it’s exactly how I like ’em! Happy STAMPtember!

  1. What an adorable card! I like the design. Scrapbook.com sent me a free Jane Davenport red pen with a recent order. A very bright red and I love the color, but haven’t known what to do with it. I like the way you’ve used your pens on this card. Thanks for the post, Yana. Hope you’re well.
