Did you like to play with paper dolls when you were little? I apparently didn’t play enough, because being over 30 years old I couldn’t get enough of these darling paper doll like die cuts from Spellbinders and I just kept cutting them out, putting them together and playing dress up.
I’m creating with Spellbinders Small & Large die of the month die sets today making a few paper doll or character cards. These are great for Valentine’s Day as well as other occasions, such as Birthday, Get Well, Miss You – basically any occasion where one can gift flowers – you can use these dies for that.

As always, I filmed a video tutorial showing how to create this project from start to finish. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy it. Watch it below or on my Youtube channel.

CARD DETAILS
I’ve already made a ton of these paper dolls as I was working on the projects for the Spellbinders Blog & Youtube Channel and as I was playing with all of these dies, the more I played, the more new things I discovered about these dies. Like how you can make new hair styles, or how you can alter their clothing. Or how you can make them wear an evening gown if you use glitter paper.
I have also discovered that the Spellbinders Small die of the Month for January (paper doll dies) and the Spellbinders Large die of the Month for January kind of coordinate. The large die of the month features a big heart, a bouquet wrapper and dies to make flowers. So when I put a bouquet together I realized that I could have my paper doll holding it and giving paper flowers on my card. Pretty neat, right?
I opted to use colored cardstock and patterned paper today, but hint hint, these can also be die-cut out of white paper and colored with your favorite coloring medium. You can really change up the hair styles for the girls and have them have ponytails, braids, a bun or even two, there are a ton of options.
To make the bouquet I used Spellbinders Large die of the Month for January 2019. There’s one die that cuts this bouquet wrapper and it’s super easy to fold and assemble, you can fold on the score lines (die does add score lines to the paper when you cut it out) and than just add dabs of glue to secure.
Adding leaves and flowers to the bouquet was again super easy – you just cut them out of colored cardstock or patterned paper and glue in place. You can make your bouquet as big or as little as you like.
To make a card using this darling little girl I die-cut a partial heart in blue cardstock panel. The heart die is from the Large Die of the Month for January 2019, I also used an embossing folder and dry emboss the blue panel to give it some texture. Next I debated using various sentiments for this card, but finally ended up using one that says Thank you a Bunch from WPlup9.
After stamping sentiment in Hero Arts brown ombre ink for some added interest I foam mounted the blue panel in place and also foam mounted my girl. I added a tiny blue enamel heat from my stash and that finished this card.
Boy & Bouquet Card
I also have a similar card but with a boy! He’s also holding a bouquet of flowers and he’s ready to give it to his wife or girlfriend on Valentine’s Day or anniversary. This card, unlike the girl card, features some rose gold foiling in the background using Spellbinders January 2019 Glimmer Hot Foil Club!
I pulled out my Glimmer Hot Foil System, the January Glimmer Hot Foil Club kit and rose gold foil from my stash and foiled a partial heart on the blue cardstock panel. I’m so drawn to blue lately, I just love this color.
Next, I used a die from the Large die of the Month for January 2019, this die actually coordinates with the Glimmer January Club and die-cut a heart opening in this panel. I also dry embossed another panel using same diagonal stripe embossing folder, but this time I layer this embossed panel under my foiled one.
Once I had everything assembled I added a super simple Love you sentiment.
