Hello, crafters! As I type up this blog post on a beautiful Sunday morning I dream about late November when I’ll pull out all the Christmas decorations and begin decorating our home. The latest, Always Welcome, October 2020 Large Die of the Month from Spellbinders has me feeling particularly inspired about decorating a front door! I’ve been browsing ideas on Pinterest, saving some for this year, and envisioning all sorts of pretty wreaths and decor for the front door. While the end of November is still pretty far away, I can put my decorating efforts into handmade cards!

Today I’m excited to join Spellbinders for their October Clubs Blog Hop. I am creating with the Large Die of the Month for October 2020 which is this stunning door. I have previously shared another card, I call it “over the top” and even a video tutorial featuring this die set. You can check it out here or below.

CARD DETAILS
Blue is one of my favorite colors and I thought it would be nice to die-cut a front door from blue cardstock. I had to hunt down this blue paper leftover in my stash (no surprise there, this is one of my favorite colors, so I go through packs of this cardstock color very quickly). I used Denim Days from FSJ. I die-cut the front door, columns and even a panel to go behind the door using this color. The wall behind the door was created using a Love Stripe embossing folder. I love the diagonal stripes it added to this design.
I also incorporated light gray cardstock, Fog from Simon Says Stamp (or you can also use Tin Pail from FSJ) to make the patio and the top part above the door; and Gold Mirror Cardstock for the accents on the columns, the window part of the door, the mail slot and door handle.
Just a hint of red was added to this design, I used Candy Apple from FSJ, I cut the doormat from red, and one of the envelopes stuck in the mail slot.
I used 2 shades of green to make the wreath for the door. I die-cut one layer of light green and one from gold. The poinsettias were die-cut from gold and the leaves were die-cut from dark green. I added a bow using gold thread and jewels to make flower centers.
I used a “Merry & Bright” foiled sentiment for this card, this one is from my Yana’s Christmas Basics collection. I love that these two (the wreath and sentiment worked together size-wise). If you look closely at the door handle, you’ll notice it is dimensional – I used mirror gold cardstock and topped that with a small droplet. This particular door card is not interactive, I glued the door shut, but this die set does allow you to make the door interactive – it can open and close.
