I love when small, low cost, die sets pack a punch. The Spellbinders Joyful Tree set, only $12.99, fits that bill perfectly. It is a clever little set to make funky, modern-looking Christmas trees for our cards.
Of course, I could not resist making a card or two (or three, the 3rd one is still in the making though) using these dies. Excited to share with you as part of my “It’s a Christmas Season” mini impromptu cardmaking series.

CARD DETAILS
Dark, dramatic backgrounds are my thing and so I planned to use black cardstock for this card. I started by hot foiling a sentiment in the lower portion of the panel using a mix of sentiments – main sentiment from the Holiday Sentiments Series 2 set and “Wishing You” from my Yana’s Christmas sentiment set. I foiled both in one go using gold foil.
When foiling I don’t leave any space between these two glimmer plates; when there is space my foil gets in the way and overfoils a solid line of gold between the sentiments. So just a tip for you if you have the same issue – don’t leave any space between the plates when foiling them.
Next, I added double-sided sticky sheet to the back of the gold mirror cardstock and die cut the decorative scalloped layers. Spellbinders has White Lines Sheets in the store and these work perfectly for adding adhesive back to die cuts.
Regular cardstock layers were die-cut from various colors of the blue I had sitting on my desk. I think I used Blue Lagoon from FSJ, Arctic & Mist from Hero Arts. I added a decorative gold layer onto every other layer of my Christmas tree, this way (wasn’t planned), by die-cutting the gold layers just once I had enough gold for 2 cards.
I also had some black foam adhesive sheets in my stash (gosh, these are so old!) and so I die-cut them to add behind the layers of the tree to add dimension, this is why you can’t see any foam adhesive on the card, even though the layers are popped up, not too much, but a bit.
I also used FSJ Fashion Gold embellishments to decorate my tree, I love these perfectly round little dots! They also come in silver. The other card I am working on with this die set – I’m planning to have the tree decorated with tiny die-cut poinsettias and possibly pretty jewels. We’ll see!
I’m debating filming videos for these Christmas cards, on one hand, I want to, on the other hand, I don’t have that much spare time, but if you tell me you’d love a video for these – I can definitely manage it. Let me now! I have more Christmas cards coming, I made 2 more yesterday morning before work.

Elegant cards. I love the black background with the gold accents. I have some of the glimmer plates and after watching your recent videos, I will have to try them soon. I hope they turn out as lovely as yours.
Definitely would like to see some videos of your cards. Amazing!
I love this card! I would also like to see a video for it. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Yana, simple gorgeous cards as always. I bought all of your new Christmas glimmer plates as well as some of the new main issue from Spellbinders including the holiday sentiments 2 so now I need the die set. I’d love it if you could do a video please. Although I have all the glimmer plates you have designed I don’t have a great deal of confidence, but I guess it’s the old adage, Practice makes Perfect. Thank you for your amazing tips too. They really help.❤️
such a great design
I would like to see a video, if you have the time and I understand the crunch for time, as I have never foiled before or seen how foiling works. Your cards are always so creative, colourful and beautiful!!
