CARD DETAILS
I started working on this card by hot foiling snow! I wanted to create a scene – a light blue sky filled with falling snow, some snow hills in the foreground, a cute little girl holding a Holiday greeting, and some Christmas gifts at the bottom of the card to add interest.
I foiled the snow on Spellbinders Glacier cardstock using Twinkle Lights Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Opal foil. This foil color gives a tone-on-tone look.
If you are new to hot foil stamping I encourage you to check out my Hot Foil Stamping playlist with videos on introduction to Hot Foil Stamping as well as loads of tips and suggestions to get perfect foiled results.
I also die-cut several hills from white cardstock using the Color Block Scenic Scape dies. These dies are evergreen. There are 3 dies in this set and they are designed to be used on all current popular card sized to create hills. There’s a PDF o the Spellbinders website with the configuration of the hills – it is super helpful when using these dies. I foiled Christmas Greetings in gold foil on the bottom block to work as a sub sentiment for my card.
The main sentiment reads Christmas is Better When We Are Together is foiled in gold foil on red cardstock. I cut it out using a circle die turned into a giant ornament for the girl to hold with the help of an ornament hanger die from Circle Kaleidoscope Slimline set. An ornament hanger die like this can be found in many other die sets, I did a quick search on the Spellbinders website and came across a bunch of other die sets that have a hanger like this, you might also already have a piece like this in your stash.
Next, I worked on assembling the die-cut pieces to make a girl. The girl comes from the Shopping Spree set and you have legs, a coat, gloves, and shoes to build the bottom part of the girl. You don’t have the top part because that is blocked by whatever the girl is holding and the way this die set is designed, she is holding a stack of gifts. I wanted the girl to hold a giant ornament, so she’ll be holding that on my card. You can also have her hold other things, maybe a Christmas Tree, a shopping bag, or even a giant teddy bear. She can also hold a big greeting card – you can just cut a rectangle from cardstock to resemble a large greeting card.
I foam mounted my light blue panel onto a slimline card base, it measures 3 3/4 x 8 1/2″ and I added the Scenic Scape pieces on top building the bottom part of the scene. I used glue for the top and middle hill and foam adhesive squares for the bottom hill to pop it up a bit and add dimension. This card ended up being quite dimensional, but that’s how I prefer my cards – I typically have several layers of dimension going on on a project.
Next, I added the bottom part of the girl placing it just a smidge above the bottom hill and I foam mounted the ornament. I pulled out my Tool ‘n One and stylus tips and I die cut a bunch of little flowers. I cupped each flower by pressing with my medium size stylus in the center. I used my Spellbinders tweezers and adhered one flower on top of the other and offset it to make one full flower for the card. I made a bunch of little flowers l and used them to embellish the ornament and the gifts.
Speaking of the gifts – the Shopping Spree die set comes with a die to cut various size rectangles and another die to fake ribbon and bow for the gifts. I am saying fake, because you can certainly add real ribbon to these little gifts, maybe use some fancy thread or something thin to embellish these. I really loved the idea of adding a die-cut ribbon piece and bow and so I cut some for this card from Rose Gold cardstock.
Lastly, I embellished this card with Spellbinders Crystal Mix Gems. Have fun crafting!
