Hello crafters. Today, even though it’s still just August, I’m sharing a hot foil tutorial using etched dies to make a Christmas card. Spellbinders has just released a bunch of absolutely gorgeous Holiday dies and Glimmer plates that are very much on-trend and make fabulous Christmas projects.
I haven’t had the chance to play with the dies yet, I have used the new Glimmer plates and I do have a video coming soon, but today I wanted to do some die cutting and also show you how you can use your regular dies to create foiled effects on your Christmas cards.

VIDEO TUTORIAL
As always, I filmed a video tutorial showing how to create this project from start to finish. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy it. Watch it below or on my Youtube channel:

CARDS DETAILS
The die I am working with today is Joy. The Joy comes with an outline die and this is what I am using to foil with. There are also separate dies to cut the word Joy as well as dies to cut poinsettias, holly leaves, branches, and berries.
I used Blue Lagoon cardstock from FSJ, cut it to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2” to make the front of the card. Next, I used my hinge method to position and attach the die exactly in the center of my panel. I explain the hinge method in detail in one of my previous videos.
Having secured the Joy on the paper, and having added the Polished Brass foil, I also prepped “Merry and Bright” glimmer plate sentiment. These glimmer plates come from the new Holiday Sentiment set and are a great addition to the 2 previous sentiment sets from Spellbinders called Everyday sentiments, I can’t get enough of them and I use them for nearly every foiled project I make.
Once I foiled both, I set the sentiment aside. Next, I die-cut Joy letters from gold glitter and gold foil cardstock and foam mounted them onto my panels (I foiled several joy panels as I wanted to make more than one card).
One of my favorite ways to dress up simple card designs like this is to add some ink blending and so I’ve picked 2 colors of ink – Blue Lagoon, the same ink color as the paper I have foiled on and also Huckleberry Fusion from FSJ to do the ink blending.
With the ink added around the edges, the center section of the panel really glows. With the ink blending done I foam mounted the sentiment panel, die-cut poinsettias, leaves, and branches and adhered everything onto the card. I used Candied Apple and Fresh Forest cardstock from FSJ to die cut all of these pieces.
I used glue to adhere everything in place except for the red flowers – I used foam adhesive to pop those up next to the letters. I also added gold flower centers to the red poinsettias and even some red berries onto some of the branches.
I also used Nuvo drops in Morning Dew and coated the berries as well as the gold flower centers on the poinsettias. For the other card, where I had the Mirror Gold cardstock letters I also added some gold glitter die cuts to the add some shine to the card, I skipped adding Nuvo Drops but added Jewels from Pretty Pink Posh instead. I love both card options, but curious to know if you prefer one over the other.
