Hello there! Today I have a few cards to share showing how to do color layering with dies. I’m going to be using a few new stamp and die sets from Spellbinders Indie Line collection.
This collection is exclusive to independent retailers. In other words you will be able to get these dies at places like Simon Says Stamp and alike, you will not be able to buy these from Spellbinders online store or Micheals, Jo-Ann or Hobby Lobby. Check you local or online retail store to see if they have this collection.

VIDEO TUTORIAL
As always, I filmed a video tutorial showing how to create this project from start to finish. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy it. Watch it below or on my Youtube channel. Spellbinders sent me the entire collection and I thought I’d give you a quick overview. If you don’t want to see it and would just like to see the cardmaking part of this video – please skip ahead.

CARDS DETAILS
For my first card I used white cardstock and my ink pads to add color to the die-cut layers. You can always use this trick when you don’t have the right shade of cardstock in your stash.
I fist die-cut the layers out of white paper and next used my dye inks (most are from Simon Says Stamp) and mini round ink blending tools to add color. I went with: Green Apple, Willow and Jellybean for the leaves and Pixie (this is Avery Elle pigment ink), Hollyhock and Doll Pink. You can use any inks for this – dye, pigment, hybrid – it doesn’t matter (simply use what you have).
I used glue and adhered these together to create my roses and leaves. I decided to go with a very simple card layout and used one of the stamps from the Hugs Expressions stamp and die set and stamped a diagonal background that reads “You Give The Best (Hugs)”. I stamped this in Simon’s Stone ink.
I foam mounted roses and used glue to adhere the leaves. Next, I added a black die-cut Hugs and also stamped “& kisses”. I coated Hugs with some shimmer using my Tonic Aqua Shimmer pen and added several Morning Dew drops onto the background to finish this card.
I made a few more cards using layering dies – this time I used colored cardstock and specialty paper. I die cut all butterfly layers out of 3 colors of yellow cardstock and also gold glitter paper and this gave me enough layers to make 3 different butterflies for my cards. I also kept the negative die cuts for some inlay die cutting for future projects – I didn’t want to toss these as they looked like they can easily be used.
I used a Hello die from the Hello Expressions set to create a background for this card – I simply die-cut hello multiple times out of gray cardstock and adhered onto same gray panel creating some texture and illusion of dry embossing. I added a butterfly on top and stamped “How Are You” sentiment is Stone ink.
I also made another card using tulip dies and Enjoy Expressions stamp and die set – I once again used colored cardstock to add color and dimension to my images.
The colors of cardstock I used are: Sunshine, Banana and Lemon for the flowers, Green Apple and Green Leaf for the leaves. I also incorporated a bit of Gold glitter paper – I layered it under the die-cut Enjoy for some beautiful drop shadow look.
I stamped a black diagonal background for this card using a diagonal stipe background stamp from Simon Says Stamp, next I die-cut a rectangle panel using a scored and pierced rectangles die set from Spellbinders. I am really a fan of these simple shape dies – they are a must in my stash!
I also stamped Your Birthday sentiment and embellished this card using Nuvo drops in Morning Dew.
I hope you enjoyed this cardmaking idea and will give it a try using these or other dies from your stash.

I think layering dies are the best idea ever! I currently do not own any, but I can see the beauty and ease of making really nice cards with this idea. They would be very helpful for people such as I –no artistic bones. 😉 ha ha I really love your tulip card, the bold colors looks so pretty. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Such wonderful cards as always! The layering flowers & butterflies are so pretty. I really like the word stamp & dies with the shadow included, it gives you so many options. I think it’s great that Spellbinders is supporting smaller companies!
These are beautiful!

Yes I have layered with some of my cards.
I love all of your cards and all of the backgrounds, especially the first one. The repeated sentiment in the soft gray color does not compete at all, but compliments nicely. I also love the touch of gold glitter behind the sentiment on the tulip card. Thank you for the wonderful overview and some great tips on these cards.
I just love this new release and your cards are beautiful, so colorful!
