Hello, friends! Today I have several 3D paper easels to share, easels made with Spellbinders August 2020 Large Die of the Month Club. I am a big fan of dies designed to create dimensional objects and whenever I see one I have to play to with it and make something. This die set is truly expertly designed and it makes creating an easel a rather easy task. Like any die for a 3D object, it is a bit complicated, but once you take the time to learn how to use it – you’ll be able to make these fun easels in no time.

DETAILS
Watch my video tutorial above to learn how to assemble the easel, I share tips on how to make it collapsible for easy storage and mailing (you do need to mail it in a box). I made 3 easels and decorated 5 canvases. The canvases can be used alone, without the easel, they can go on the front of a card, or even on a front of a mini album. If you use the backside of the canvas – it makes a nice little shadowbox. The easel can also be used to hold a card base (skip adding the top bracket).
To create the decorative panels for my canvases (I prefer to assemble canvases blank and simply adhered a decorated panel onto the canvas rather than decorating the canvas itself) I made watercolor backgrounds using Mermaid Markers from Jane Devenport, I actually shared this background technique not too long ago in another video where I talked about Watercolor and Hot Foil Stamping, watch it HERE.
I used my media mat from Waffle Flower when making these backgrounds. I mostly added ink onto the mat, sprayed the ink with water to dilute it, in some cases, I sprayed the paper so that the ink was able to flow easier on the paper and pressed the paper onto the mat creating a watercolor background. I made a LOT of backgrounds. I think I just played and played with these to the point where my fingertips got really messy and I was all out of the watercolor paper I had prepped ahead of time to use for these backgrounds.
I of course didn’t use all of these backgrounds, but I like to make extras and just keep them in a bin by my desk and use them when I’m crafting. In fact, I wanted to make a bunch of backgrounds like these for future projects and I’m glad I finally did.
This month Spellbinders also has a fun Club add on called Crafty Sentiments, it is a set of Glimmer Plates with sentiments that read: Let’s Get Crafty, Hello Crafty Friend and Living the Crafty Life. I thought these were perfect to foil on my watercolor backgrounds to use for my easels. I pulled my Glimmer Hot Foil System out and foiled my foiled away creating fun foiled panels.
The 3D easel die also includes a lot of decorative pieces to help you decorate the canvas – paintbrushes, paint tubes, paint splatter, and paint palettes. I had some little leftover pieces of watercolor paper and I thought it would be fun to die cut my paint tubes and paint splatters from the watercolor paper and not regular colored cardstock. My canvases were watercolored, so I wanted my art supplies to have a watercolor look to them as well.
With all the parts and pieces ready I started to assemble my canvases. I adhered the foiled panels onto the canvas using double-sided tape. I foiled the sub sentiments for each of these sentiments on white cardstock and cut those out using a banner die to have a little V-shape at the end. Next, I added my paint palette piece, I inserted the paintbrushes into the opening – I love how that looks!
I also added several paint tubes and a splatter of paint coming out of one of the tubes. I adhered the tubes using foam adhesive and then used glue to add the paint splatter onto the canvas.

Love these samples! Now I have to get the dies! LOL
Glad you like them, Anna 🙂 And I hope you do get these dies, they are so fun to craft with 🙂
A-dorable. Really unique. Sometimes I too need a break from card making and to do some other sort of crafting. I’ll be doing that today (taking a break from cards to do another type of project). Thanks, Yana
thank you, Debbie! what other type of craft do you do? I’m intrigued!
How cute! Anyone would be happy to receive one of the easels. Thanks for sharing your talents and showing us how these work.
Thank you, Patricia! I’ve had so much fun making these, might make even more! I’m addicted lol!
These are FABULOUS!!!! I can’t wait for mine to come!!!!
awww, thank you Maureen! I hope is arrives quickly!
Hi Yana! I’m am SO sold on the Glimmer system, it’s my wish gift for Christmas! Slowly I’m learning more about it but the designs are just fabulous. The hot foiling adds a professional touch, I just love it. You made me laugh with your inky hands & water colored backgrounds and I’ve bookmarked your original post on how you achieve your gorgeous backgrounds! I love your designs this month, the canvas & easel cards are so original and so amazing!
thank you, Stephanie! Sometimes is perfectly acceptable to get super inky lol (as long as I can easily scrub the ink off). I’m glad you are considering Glimmer, it really is a wonderful tool to have in the craft room. Even a simple foiled frame instantly adds a lot of WOW to a project.
Fantastic set.
glad you like it, thank you, Debbie!
