Hello there! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Hubby and I are enjoying hot and dry Arizona sunshine (I love this warm weather), but at the same time I am tirelessly making Christmas cards (and, believe it or not, I am staring on Valentine’s Day projects, too).
Today I’m sharing a spin off a card and video I shared 2 weeks ago – Henna Pattern Backgrounds where I heat embossed images in white embossing powder onto kraft cardstock. I enjoyed the process and the look so much that I decided to take it one step further with the new Winter Flowers stamp set and add some selective coloring.

VIDEO TUTORIAL
I’ve created a video tutorial where I am sharing everything in detail. You can watch it below or on my Youtube channel.

CARDS DETAILS
I wasn’t sure which medium I wanted to use to do my coloring, so I used them both – Derwent Inktense Watercolor Pencils and Copic Markers. I love both looks and the coloring took about the same amount of time on both of these.
When coloring with a watercolor pencil over non watercolor paper you want to add as little water as possible. I used a detailed water brush from Zig, I love this particular brush as it lets very little water out and I am able to keep my brush damp, not wet most of the time.
When doing Copic coloring (or any other alcohol marker coloring) you want to stay away from the heat embossed lines as the alcohol in the marker may “eat up” the embossing and embossing powder might transfer over to the nib of the marker and damage it.
To create sentiments for these projects I used two different stamp sets. For the card above I used “Happy Holidays from Our Family to Yours” from the Happy Holiday stamp set and for the card below I went with a beautiful “Believe in Your Dreams” from the Believe stamp set. Be sure to watch my video tutorial above to learn how to make these cards.

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the white lines on the kraft paper and then the simple red coloring.
Very elegant cards ! And the “correction” of the gold embossing with the red panel is an excellent trick, thank you for sharing it with us.
Just beautiful Yana. Thank you.
Absolutely stunning cards and I love how you used the red strip (sentiment) under the gold. So beautiful.
