Simon Says Stamp | Tropical Birthday Card – Do Things That Make You Happy + Weekend Sale

Hello, friends! Since Summer is not that far away these days I decided to pull out some of my tropical-themed stamps and stamp a Summer Birthday card. I opted for a slightly funny one as you and I both seem to enjoy these kinds of cards more than other projects. I’m linking to products I used below. Affiliate links used.

Whenever I aim to put a smile on the card recipient’s face I always seem to reach for the hilarious birds from the Stacked Animals stamp set. There’s just something about their facial expression that cracks me up!

CARD DETAILS

I pulled a few older stamp sets from Simon starting with the Warm Christmas Wishes. I’ve been wanting to use the palm tree image for a long time and using it for this card seemed like a perfect opportunity! I stamped it onto a white cardstock panel cut to 4 x 5 1/4″ in Simon’s Intense Black ink.

I wanted to add a little table with a drink on top, but I didn’t want to do masking, so I ended up stamping and die-cutting it in my Platinum 6 machine. I also stamped and cut out a drink umbrella from the Adult Beverages stamp set.

I ended up doing some masking for this project as I wanted to stamp a Happy Birthday message from the Circle Sayings set behind the palm trees to help me frame the scene. I also added a little bird (I stamped him upside down) and a large stamped and die cut bird.

To complete the look I also heat embossed a partial sentiment that reads “Do Things That Make You Happy” from the Choose Happy stamp set in white embossing powder onto black cardstock.

For my coloring I went with Copic markers, I am listing all of the colors I used below. To color the lights on the trees I used Nuvo Drops in English Mustard and Shocking Pink. I also added Morning Dew clear drops over the eyes of my birds, but for some reason it didn’t dry well, the coating cracked and added a rather curious effect to the bird’s eyes. I am not quite sure why it cracked, could be from all the heat and AC (from the rapid change of temperatures); I didn’t have this problem during Winter.

Lastly, I adhered my colored panel onto A2 top folding card base and foam mounted a sentiment panel on top.
