Hello friends! Today I’ve got a photo tutorial to share featuring 2 of my favorite things – pattern stamping and Polychromos pencil coloring. This makes for a great encouragement card, but same approach can be applied to make a birthday card or any other sort of card you’d like.

CARD DETAILS
I’m going to start by saying that this is not an easy card to make. Because there’s so much coloring to be done, this kind of card will take you significantly longer than normal. But if you love to color and if you love to make cards – this shouldn’t stop you, I know it doesn’t stop me!
I started by stamping an image of a toucan in black ink (I used Intense Black, but any black ink will do) onto Simon’s Fog cardstock panel with the help of my mini MISTI.
It is vital to use a stamping tool such as MISTI or Tim’s platform and to keep the stamp in the tool to be able to double stamp the outline once you’ve finished coloring (pencil coloring dulls the black stamped outline and to make it nice and black again you need to double stamp it or re-stamp it). I suppose you can use a black pen and outline the image with the help of a pen, but I prefer to double stamp.
Next, I colored toucan using my Polychromos pencils (see my step by step photo tutorial below). Because I did my stamping on gray paper I was able to add white highlight to the bird and make it pop. I re-stamped the outline and let the ink sit for a few minutes to dry.
Pencils provide somewhat of a sleek surface where ink needs a more time to dry, so take care not to smudge it. Best let it sit for some time or heat set if you are short on time.
I repeated the same steps to stamp and color additional toucan images to fill the entire background in. That did take a lot of time, but this is something that I love doing.
Next, I adhere my panel onto an A2 white card base, added white heat embossed sentiments on black cardstock (I did 3 sentiment and trimmed them into various length banners), I also created dimensional eyes by using first white (let dry) and later clear Nuvo drops and added a bit of sparkle to the birds tails with the help of a Shimmer pen.

Your colouring is always so beautiful! It’s becaue of you that I’ve got these pencils on my wish list, although I doubt I’ll ever get the same results!
Your card is beautiful and definitely a labor of love…love for card making and for the recipient. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That’s super beautiful!!
I love the colors and the awesome bird all over the background.
As usual, another beautiful card and I so appreciate the instructions and helpful hints!
I’m considering purchasing the Faber-Castel Polychromos and am wondering which set you personally use….36, 70 or larger? The colors are amazing!
Aww, what a great card Yana and your pencil work is always fantastic.
What a fun card! You coloured the little toucan just beautifully. The colours are so rich. These coloured pencils are on my wishlist. I’m going to need to win the lottery in order to be able to purchase everything on that list but these pencils are near the top.
I love cards with a funny twist! Love this card. Whould be fun with googly eyes also.
I love the colouring on this card and I had forgotten that it is a great idea to re-stamp an image after colouring it so that the black outline is re-stamped. Also I would never have thought to stamp on grey paper but I suppose it doesn’t leave those horrid white spaces. :O)
Beautiful coloring!!
