Hello friends! Hope your Summer is exactly the way you like it – hot and sunny or with a bit of gloomy sky and rain. Ours has been chilly lately, not much sun or warmth, but that’s just another reason to spend some quality time in my craft room! Today I have a fun mermaid card to share using some goodies from Simon Says Stamp.

CARD DETAILS
I started making this card by heat embossing the Beachy Waves background stamp in clear embossing powder onto Surf Blue cardstock. I actually stamped just the bottom waves part of the stamp onto my paper, next rotated it 180 degrees and stamped same image (just the waves) again creating one solid background filled with waves. I didn’t worry about the images aligning perfectly, I knew I’d cover the area where they “meet” with a sentiment and a die cut.
This handmade card uses Nuvo Drops to make water bubbles. Want to see 4 other ways you can use Nuvo Drops from Tonic Studios in card making? Check out this article – 5 Ways to Use Nuvo Drops.
I used Fine Detail Clear embossing powder by Simon and heat set the image creating a background for my card. If you tilt it in the light you can see the “wet” look. Pretty cool, especially for a summer card.
Next, I used a square die and die-cut a square twice on diagonal out of white cardstock panel creating an opening (it’s hard to tell that I die cut the square here because the area where the two squares overlap is covered for the most part, it looks more like an odd-shaped diamond) and adhered my white cardstock panel onto the heat embossed background. My idea here was to create a pool using blue heat embossed panel and outline it with white cardstock.
I stamped, die-cut and colored a gorgeous cat-mermaid from the Summer Cuddly Critters stamp set. I used the following Copic marker colors:
- E33, E11, E00
- BG18, BG13, BG11
I coated my mermaid with shimmer using Tonic Aqua Shimmer pen and added some detail using a white pen.
I also looked through my stash for other Summer items to complete this card. I came across the tropical leaves stamp set and I actually had a few of the leaves stamped and already cut out. They were stored together with my stamp set – a leftover from a previous project. This is why I love the clear storage pockets so much – I can store my stamps and dies together and even toss any leftovers in there for future use.
I adhered the leaves onto the card, foam mounted my cat-mermaid, added a Summer sentiment. I also used my Nuvo drops in Morning Dew and added a number of drops onto my background further emphasizing the look of water. Love the way it turned out!

I though I’d share a few more card ideas from by blog Archives using the tropical leaves stamp set from Simon. It’s an older set, yet it is a great one to have for summer cards. Click image to view blog posts (some of these have videos):

This Cat-Mermaid card is adorable, I can’t help but smile when I look at her LOL. I love the way you did the background with the “wet-look”. That looks so cool and I’m definitely going to try it.
