Hello, there! I am so excited to share today’s project with you – it’s simple to make card for Mom that can be used as a Mother’s Day card. I, however, intend to use this project as an encouragement piece to mail to my Mom in Ukraine to put a smile on her face (I have already made Mother’s Day cards for my Mom and Mother-in-law so I wanted to stretch my supplies and use them for something else).

VIDEO TUTORIAL
I also wanted to share something rather cool and unique – a way to create jewel paper using stamps, embossing powder and Nuvo drops! Watch my video tutorial below to learn more. Or watch it on Youtube.

CARD DETAILS
The card design I am sharing today can be easily turned into a Mother’s Day card, a Birthday card for Mom or even a simple I Love You or I Miss You for Mother or Mother in law.
I started working on my project by heat embossing a Flora 6×6 background stamp in white embossing powder onto kraft cardstock. This is a beautiful background that can be used for a variety of projects and there are lots of things you can do with this, too. You can heat emboss it in white or gold onto kraft paper; you can stamp it and partially color using pencils or markers; you can use it on watercolor paper and heat emboss over a nice watercolor background. Lots of options to explore.
I decided I wanted to color my background using pencils. I wanted the white heat embossing to pop here, so I picked kraft cardstock as my base and decided to go with Prismacolor pencils for my coloring. I picked just 3 colors and went with kraft, pink and green color combo – I think it is very feminine. The colors I used are PC929, PC1014 and PC989.
I will say I am very new to Prismacolor pencils – I got these for Christmas last year and I haven’t really had a lot of chances to use them, but I do love how they look on dark papers.
I used a dark pink pencil to add color to the flowers on my background (if you look closely you can see that this background is made up of individual flowers and leaves and they are all sort of interlock together). I also used a light pink pencil and colored the top of the flowers, I colored over the dark pink to soften the color and make the top parts of my florals appear lighter. You can also use a white pencil for this and simply layer it over the dark to get a softer, lighter color. This is what I love these prismacolor pencils for – you can easily lighten up a color using a lighter color pencil or white.
I also used a green pencil and colored all of the leaves. You can definitely keep your background white and pink only, but I really wanted to add that pop of green.
JEWEL PAPER
I wanted to create jewel paper. So I used my crystal drops from Tonic and added pink as well as white dots over my coloring. I used a neon Shocking Pink and Gloss White. I love that these drops do not take too long to dry, mine were all nice and stiff in just about 20 minutes. Although it is very hot where I live right now so that probably affects the drying time a little bit. If you don’t have these colors of Nuvo drops you can also add clear dots using Morning Dew color (clear) or even Glossy Accents. But Nuvo drops do dry much more dimensional.
For my sentiment, I used M and A letters from the Mom and Dad icons set and heat embossed two of each letter twice in white embossing powder onto white cardstock. The stamp set has letters to spell out words Mom and Dad, but I wanted to spell out Mama, this is what I call my mom, I call her Mama, so I used a letter A instead of O. I also heat embossed a sentiment that reads “So Happy You’re My” so that the sentiment together would read So Happy You’re My Momma.
I used Simon’s Hollyhock ink and mini round ink blending tool and added ombre inking onto my letters. I inked the bottom of each letter with lots of pink and left the top barely white. I also added a layer of ink over the small sentiment so that it looked as if it was embossed onto pink paper.
Next, I used my Platinum 6 die cutting and embossing machine and coordinating dies and cut my letters out.
I foam mounted my background onto an A2 top folding card base made out of white cardstock and foam mounted letters on top. I also decided to add a few sequins from Little Princess set – there are these super adorable little floral shaped sequins, I’ve never seen anything like that so I was excited to use them on my card.

Absolutely stunning and love the colours you used!!!
The white embossing with beautiful colours really pull together with the background stamp!
Lovely card Yana! What a sweet card to send to your mama. I also loved the other backgrounds you created.
I LOVE that!! It’s so smart to use the ‘A’ from the DAD to change Mom to Mama! Seems obvious now that I’ve seen it, but I probably wouldn’t have thought of it myself!
Very sweet, very pretty!
This is a really beautiful card. i cant wait to try it.
Lovely card! I am seeing more and more colored pencil video’s. I love how vibrant your pencil colors came out! I always love your informative video’s. Thanks, Jil
Beautiful card Yana, and thanks for the great video. What a great idea to make MA MA from the letters. Here in Australia we use MUM like the English do. But I can always say Ma or Mama as I am Dutch and that is what we also call her at times (especially when we were younger).
Gorgeous card.
Beautiful cards, love my SSS!
Wow.. Such pretty use of colors.. what amazing cards.. The coloring in the background stamp..is just wow!

I love this release!!!!
Gorgeous! The colors on the Kraft are stunning!!
Beautiful card. I love the new background stamps.
your mother and mother in law are so lucky! Your card is just lovely. I want to try something like that! I am working on something similar, but the pencils I used did not lay down as bold as my Prisma’s on colored cardstock, even though they are quite vibrant on white! I think I will also try heat embossing as well the next time I try it! Thanks.
Just lovely!
The colors you chose are so pretty! Beautiful work!
This is an awesome creation. Beautiful colourwork on the stamp details. I love the first one.
Two beautiful peaces.

So stunning….love the alternative use of the mom stamp.
Oh I love both of your cards – the way you use colour is always so elegant and feminine! I especially like how you used the stampset to create “mama” – it’s “mama” in Polish, too! 🙂
So soft and beautiful! I love your cards!
Lovely card. Your MaMa is going to love it. I liked the way you colored the letters and the background stamp popped with the colors you chose.
