There’s no snow here in Phoenix, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make cards with gorgeous snowflakes. And stamps from Simon’s January 2017 Card Kit are just that – absolutely stunning! I have two cards to share today, both very simple and quick to make and feature beautiful frozen fractals.

For my first project I arranged snowflake stamps on an A2 Audrey Blue panel and used my mini MISTI to stamp all of them at once in Simon’s embossing ink. Next I added WOW Detail Bright White embossing powder and heat set it. I didn’t want to heat emboss the entire panel, so I kept the top free; however I did add additional images at the bottom and right.
I used a lighter blue Sea Glass cardstock to heat emboss a beautiful sentiment – When it snows, you have two choices: shovel or make snow angels. The second part of the sentiment was stamped on the inside using Maliblue ink (I also stamped a few additional snowflakes there), unfortunately I completely forgot to take a photo of the inside of my card; I almost never decorate the inside so it just slipped my mind to photograph it.
I blended same Maliblue ink around the bottom and right edges of my panel to add some color and create a bit of an ombre effect. Lastly, I adhered several sequins from my kit.
My second project features the same sentiment, however the background here is a bit different. I used only one snowflake image and heat embossed it repeatedly onto Simon’s Smoke cardstock panel cut to 4 x 5 1/4″.
I attempted to create a pattern using this image and while it turned out okay, it it’s not exactly the way I had envisioned it. I first used my regular size MISTI to do my stamping (I was using it to have everything perfectly aligned), but later switched to using a clear block.
I used same WOW embossing powder. This time I foam mounted my panel onto an A2 top folding card base made out of white paper. I also added some sequins from the kit.
I thought about adding a few white gel pen accents, but later decided not to “disturb” the pattern.
I’m looking forward to stamping additional patterns using other snowflake stamps from my kit and also to heat embossing them on vellum. I am also very excited to try the new cardstock color, Cornflower. It would be a good one to try around Valentine’s Day for some non traditional Valentine’s Day cards.
