CARDS DETAILS
A few weeks ago I did a quick poll on my Youtube channel asking which of my video series you liked best. I enjoyed looking at the poll results, but what I loved the most – reading your comments and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
Anyhow, many of you have mentioned how much you like my video where I take a small stamp or a set of small stamps and create various stamped backgrounds of patterns for my cards. I actually thought that I have shared this way too often and I was trying to steer clear of videos showing how to stamp backgrounds as I felt I’ve shared just too many of those, but I was so happy I read your feedback, because really I do love stamping backgrounds using individual images!
So today I’m sharing 3 card ideas showing how to stamp a background using images from just one stamp set! And I also have one bonus card to share.
BACKGROUND PATTERN IDEA #1 – RANDOM & OUT OF ORDER
The stamp set I used for all of the cards today is Paws-itivity from Simon Says Stamp. This stamp set is not something that I would immediately be drawn to when thinking of various images to stamp a background, but I wanted to challenge myself and see how I could use these “pawesome” designs to stamp some fun cards.
I picked 3 colors of ink and just one solid stamp – the negative paw print in a circle. The ink colors are Winter Sky, Lake Shores and Barely Beige. So two blue and a very pale beige or gray color. Substitute the blue with another color and you have loads of color options for this background.
BACKGROUND PATTERN IDEA #2 – ON A STRAIGHT LINE
The next kind of background pattern I like to stamp is by using the help of grid lines on my cutting mat. This particular paw print is a bit smaller than 1″ in diameter, so I used 1″ grid on my mat to help me space out the stamped images and create a beautiful pattern. I stamped 5 rows of images in Audrey Blue, Orange Slush, Sunshine and Hollyhock. Of course other colors can be just as easily used.
I used grid lines of my cutting mat to help me stamp my images going on a straight line – forming 5 lines on this panel. I didn’t actually want them to be perfectly straight, I want them a bit wonky, but I still wanted this piece to maintain a linear look to it.
I also rotated this image and had the paw face different directions. If I had it facing one direction every time the background will look boring, I think, so rotating the image and using different ink colors helps to keep it dynamic.
To spice this pattern up I added a second stamped layer – nose and whiskers stamped in black ink. I stamped them multiple times overlapping some of the images. This creates the illusion of a critter being right there on my card.
I liked these black accents a lot so I decided to add more black, but using a different image – round negative ampersand. One last thing I added to this pattern was a light gray heart. I trimmed my background to 5 1/4″ x 4″ and foam mounted onto an A2 card base. I also added stamped Hugz & Whiskery Kisses Sentiment and foam mounted it onto the card. I used a coordinating die & die-cut the ampersand out into a perfect little circle. Later I decided I wanted to add Glossy accents onto the stamped noses to add some detail to these cards so I went ahead and did that.
BACKGROUND PATTERN IDEA #3 – IN A GRID
Moving onto the 3rd stamped background idea – this one is also using the grid lines of the cutting mat to help space the images out evenly. I decided to combine the nose and whiskers images – there’s one with a triangle shaped nose and one with an oval shaped nose. I stamped the triangle one in blue ink and added oval nose stamped in yellow and pink forming a pattern on this card.
For this background I knew right away I wanted to use goodly eyes; the noses already suggested critters on the card so the eyes didn’t look out of place. I didn’t have enough googly eyes for every image, and this I think was for the best, because had I added google eyes to every stamped image it might have looked too busy. I used both small and medium size eyes and also mixed them up.
After I added the eyes I decided I wanted to add some more stamping to the background so I used the outline paw image and stamped it in Fog ink. To finish this card I white heat embossed same Hugz & Whiskerry Kisses sentiment onto black cardstock and foam mounted that onto my card.
BONUS CARD IDEA
Moving on to the bonus card idea! While here I didn’t stamp a full background, I did do quite a bit of stamping using just one paw image. I used 5 colors of brown ink and stamped 3 images in a row. I didn’t use grid lines and stamped images a lot closer together. Once I had the paws stamped I also added black stamped noses with whiskers and finished this card off with Can I Lend A Paw sentiment.
