Simon Says Stamp | Merry Everything Christmas Card with Non Holiday Florals

Hello, friends. Lately, I’ve been enjoying using black cardstock as a base for my card designs. I love the contrast, I love the drama, and I love the unexpectedness the black cardstock gives to a card. I know using black can be very scary, but it can also be rewarding, do give it a go if you haven’t already.

CARD IDEA

I wanted to use non-holiday floral images, I love the florals from the new You Have My Heart stamp set from Simon Says Stamp, and use them to make a Christmas card. I was able to do that with a few tricks – I used a red & green color combo to set the mood + added some Christmas foiling.

CARD INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions for this card are rather similar to this card. Follow these instructions step by step to re-create this card:

• Foil largest frame from the Spellbinders Essential Rectangles Glimmer Hot Foil Plate in gold foil on black cardstock. Cut the panel out using the largest die from the Essential Rectangles set.

I love to add a foiled frame to my card designs. It adds the most perfect touch. My favorite frames to use are Essential Rectangles and Framed Details.

• Heat emboss “Merry Everything” from the Good Cheer stamp set from CZ in white embossing powder. I contemplated adding an additional sentiment but decided to keep it minimal with just the “Merry Everything” one.

Whenever you want to combine hot foil stamping and heat embossing it is important to foil the design first. Foiling somewthing that has already been heat embossed can re-melt the embossing powder.

• Stamp images from the Simon Says Stamp You Have My Heart stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock using mini MISTI.
• Color images with Copic markers: R39 (red flowers + use Thriller Jacket pen from Jane Davenport for very vibrant red), G21, G94, G99 (green leaves, color some of the leaves with YG03 to alter the shade of green); RV10, RV11, RV14 (pink flowers). Place panel back into MISTI and re-stamp outlines using Versafine Onyx Black ink. Cover with Clear embossing powder, heat set.

Re-stamping the black outline with Versafine Onyx Black & adding clear embossing powder overtop makes the black a lot blacker, which looks really fantastic on a black background.

• Cut images out using coordinating dies. Arrange on the background panel and adhere with foam adhesive. Trim excess, foam mount panel to card.
• Hot foil pine branches from Spellbinders Christmas Foliage Circle set in gold foil on black cardstock, cut out with coordinating dies. Foam mount to card.

Adding foiled pine branches is what makes this card a Christmas one. The flowers themselves work for a multitude of occasions, but adding foiled Christmas accents is what does the trick to make this card really festive.

• Embellish card with gold sequins.
• Let dry and enjoy!
