Simon Says Stamp | MEOW Birthday Card

Hello there! This past weekend we celebrated my hubby’s Birthday and of course I had to make him a card! I always make a card for his big day and he always anticipates to receive a hand made one. He is so sweet!

This year I decided to picture our real life on a card and make hubby the center of attention and of course I needed to add both of our cats (we have two black cats, a mommy and a daughter).

To create this card I first heat embossed my images in WOW Bright White embossing powder onto Arches watercolor paper (I had a little piece of this paper left just for such an occasion, its my most favorite watercolor paper). I went with the cutest little bear wearing summer shorts (he really does look like my hubby lol), two spoiled cats, party hats, balloons and ice cream. Its very hot these days so we are eating ice cream every day, hence ice cream on this card.

I watercolored all images with my Gansai Tambi watercolors and cut them out using matching dies (I have them all linked below). I’m so thankful there are matching dies out there, I was hand cutting some images out of watercolor paper the other day and my hand still hurts! Not doing that again.

Both of our cats are black, one being a little more brown on the tummy so I tried to color them the way they look in real life. A black ball of fur.

To have some sort of a background on this card I ink blended a bit of Duckling ink onto an A2 Top Folding card base. My sentiment, MEOW Happy Birthday was made up of two sentiments, MEOW came from the MEOWY Christmas from the Christmas Cats set and Happy Birthday is from the Circle Sayings set and was stamped in Simon’s Slate ink. I love the imperfection on the MEOW and I intentionally did not use my MISTI to fix it, I really liked it that way, looks intentional.

My images were all foam mounted onto the card. For some I used a double layer of adhesive, for some – just a single layer. Of course I had to add some sequins and clear drops to make this card a little bit more festive and sparkly.

I wish I could have also added a tongue to the cat on the left, I wanted to make it look like she’s trying to lick the ice cream.

Hubby loved the card, so did my Mom. He has it on display on his desk along with other cards I’ve made for him over the years. Its fun to look at them and see how my cardmaking style has changed.

I also really enjoy making cards picturing my family members, especially the cats. I think its such a neat idea to have these cat stamps (or dog stamps for those who have dogs). Here’s a link to a holiday card I did last year using the same cats stamp set.
