Simon Says Stamp | Lazy Crazy Days of Summer

This post is also available in English

Who is ready for Summer? I am not particularly fond of the hot Summer days, but I love Summer evenings. We recently re-decorated our balcony (added some pretty plants and faux green grass floor) and I’m so looking forward to spending our Summer evenings out there sipping some cold lemonade while looking at the stars up above.

Today I have a fun Summery card to share featuring some new stamps from Simon Says Stamp and new Hero Arts Reactive inks.

CARD DETAILS

This card started out as an experiment. I was playing with the new Hero Arts Reactive inks (watch how to make colorful backgrounds using these in just minutes) and was exploring their properties when diluted with water. Starting with a sheet of cold pressed watercolor paper I sprayed water to wet the paper, next I applied some ink onto a craft mat, sprayed it with water to dilute it and using a wide paintbrush and wide horizontal brush strokes I painted a colorful background. Where I wanted the color more intense I took the ink pad directly to the paper and swiped across following with a wet paintbrush to help the ink move. I used the following ink colors: Lemon Drop, Creamsicle, Taffy, Key Lime Fizz and Pool Party.

Once everything was dry it reminded me of a gorgeous sunset and I decided this piece would make a fabulous background for one of Simon’s latest images – the frenchie! I stamped an image of a french bulldog in alcohol marker friendly ink on white paper and colored it using my Copic markers. Using coordinating dies I cut the image out and foam mounted on my background.

Next, I stamped a sentiment and several paw prints in VersaFine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed them in clear embossing powder. The “Let’s Catch Up” sentiment was stamped in the same way but on a scrap piece of watercolor paper, trimmed to a skinny strip and foam mounted to the card. Finally, I added some white pen details and coated the nose, glasses and lemonade glass with Glossy Accents.

  1. I love your coloring but hate when a die is used to cut something out and paste on the front of the card. The little white around the image is very distracting to me. I love the cards that have the image stamped directly on the card and colored.

  2. I am totally ready for summer Yana and your balcony sounds so cozy. We live in the country and on my husbands family farm so we have lots of privacy (and sky to enjoy)… Your card reminds me of my summer nights with my own kids while growing up and now with our grandsons. It is wonderful to spend special summer evenings catching up and days where you can make fun and special cards that have meaning. This is such a fun card.
