Simon Says Stamp | Layered Spring Tulips

I used to not like flowers when I was a little girl and a teenager. My mom worked (and still works) as a teacher. It is customary here in Ukraine to gift flowers to teaches on the first and last day of school. So twice a year we’d have more flowers and bouquets in our home we had vases to put them in. Some of those flowers had an intoxicating smell (like orchids) and I think that smell, combined with the sheer quantity of flowers made me reluctant to florals for a long time. It wasn’t until I moved out in my early twenties that I really started to appreciate the beauty of different flowers. These days I like to occasionally spoil myself with some fresh seasonal flowers or, on rare occasions, with exotic flowers (I bought anemones the other day). Right now our flower shops and markets are bursting with all sorts of tulips in a variety of colors.

The other day I remember I had the Layered Tulips stamp set from Simon (there’s also a stencil to give you a similar look, I’ve shared several cards using it HERE) and haven’t used it once. So I pulled it out of the packaging and stamped some pretty tulips.

CARD IDEA

The Layered Tulips is a large 6×8″ stamp set and works perfectly for the new popular mini slimline card size. I don’t know about you, but I adore mini slimline card size these days. It isn’t as large and intimidating as the regular slimline and it is different from A2 providing a new perspective.

I stamped the tulips using 5 colors of ink: Jellybean for the base leaf layer and a bit of Green Leaf to add shading at the very bottom, Green Leaf to stamp the leaf detail layer, Duckling to stamp the base flower layer, and a bit of Sunshine at the very bottom to add shading, Sunshine for the detail layer and a bit of Orange Slush to add shading. I trimmed my stamped panel to 2 7/8″ to 5 7/8″ and foam mounted it onto a 3 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ cream card base.

I used a Christmas sentiment from the Holiday Sparkle Greetings set to stamp “Happy” – I love the size of it and it worked perfectly here to run across the card. I also added “it makes me so” and “to see you happy” using Simon’s pre-printed sentiment strips. Lastly, I embellished the card with Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.
