Simon Says Stamp | June 2017 Card Kit – Floral Watercolor Cards

Hello, there! Today is the 14th of the month and that means new subscription card kit from Simon Says Stamp is live! This kit features a gorgeous floral stamp set and a sampler set of Daniel Smith watercolors (they are my current favorite watercolors to use). I was very happy to see these watercolors included as they are indeed very high quality and believe it or not each dot lasts a very long time.

CARD DETAILS

I heat embossed floral image in Hero Arts Gold embossing powder onto watercolor paper, used a detailed and medium size water brushes and watecolored images using Daniel Smith watercolors. I’ve shared a video a few month ago with a closer look at the Daniel Smith Dot Watercolor Chart – I talked a little bit about it and also showed on camera how to use it, you can find that video here if you’d like to watch it.

Basically all you need to do to use the dot watercolors is pick a brush, wet it, bring it over to the dry watercolor, pick up some pigment and start coloring. After I pick up the pigment with a wet brush I like to first take it to a clear block (it doubles as my watercolor palette) and dilute the color with some more water. I like to start coloring with a very light color and I gradually increase the color intensity as I go.

There are only 4 colors included in the kit, but you can mix them together to have new colors. For example mixing blue and pink will give you purple. And if you happen to like these – Simon now offers these watercolors in tubes. I’m looking forward to getting them soon.

I watercolored not only the image itself, but also added a light blue wash to the background, I love this look!

I trimmed a narrow strip of patterned paper from my kit and adhere it onto my watercolor panel; the panel was foam mounted onto a 4 Bar card base. I also heat embossed a sentiment using white embossing powder onto black cardstock, trimmed into a strip and foam mounted onto the card using black foam tape. As a one final touch I added black enamel dots using Nuvo Drops.
