Simon Says Stamp | Distress Emboss Resist Flamingo Background

Hello there! With Summer being almost over down here I wanted to create a hot tropical card with a bunch of flamingos and some vibrant colors. Creative Chemistry got me using my Distress inks all over again (and I ordered a few new colors, too) so this was a perfect opportunity to play with some good old techniques, like emboss resist!

CARD DETAILS

I started by creating a background for my card by using distress inks and water. After I added several colors of ink and several layers (I dried my paper in between each layer to prevent colors from contaminating) I stamped and heat embossed Simon’s Flamingo background in Hero Arts clear embossing powder to create the resist.

The clear embossing powder protected the vibrant colors of distress ink on my background and I added a lot more water and lifted the color on non embossed sections to make them lighter. Love this look! I trimmed my panel down to 4 x 5 1/2 inches and also die cut a circle opening in the middle using Simon’s Stitched Circle die.

Because my background warped from all the heat and water I used fun foam instead of foam adhesive to mount it onto a card base, I added double sided adhesive to my foam, die cut using the same circle die, enlarged the opening with scissors and adhered my background onto the card.

I also stamped, die cut and watercolored several additional images – two flamingos and a golf ball which looks like a beach ball here (or at least I hope it does!) and a tropical leaf. I foam mounted all of these images inside my circle opening, added a heat embossed sentiment that reads #Good Times and embellished this card with several clear sequins and drops from Pretty Pink Posh.
