CARD IDEA
The Beachcombing is a large 6×8 set full of beautiful seashells. It is a building set, meaning you have the image outline and the image solid layer. This type of stamp set takes away the need to do coloring and allows you to add color to the images using solid layer stamps and inks. You, of course, can also use these images, the outline images, and color them using your favorite coloring medium, but if you aren’t into coloring, this is a great set to use.
I’m going to show you how you can use your ink pads, MISTI stamping tool, and a blending brush to create beautiful stamped images. Begin by heat embossing the seashell outlines in Antique Gold embossing powder on Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock.
Pop the panel back inside the MISTI and let’s color! I start with that large seashell and my ink plan for this one is Peachy, Grapefruit, and Mandarin. I first ink up the entire layer and stamp it in Peachy ink, this is the lightest of all three. Next, I use grapefruit, which is a medium color and while holding the ink pad at an angle, I ink up just the edges of this image. Next, I have a small blending brush I use to soften the edge of the ink that’s applied to the stamp. I simply tap over the ink edge with the brush. If you’ve never tried this technique – do give it a try, I did not invent this, and I’m not sure who did, but this is a brilliant way to add shading to solid stamped images without much effort.
Once you are happy, close the lid of the MISTI and stamp the image. And now you have shading added to your seashell. Isn’t that cool? And it was so easy to do! If you don’t have a blending brush, you can also use your finger, although using a small size brush usually works much better.
You can also use the brush to apply the ink to the stamp, without bringing the ink pad to the stamp set at all. Simply tap on the ink pad and then tap on the stamp until you have the desired amount of ink. With the MISTI, you can keep stamping and building your ink until you are happy with the result, so I’d say start with a little ink and add more as you go.
To create the card I used coordinating dies and cut the seashells out. I added them to a kraft rectangle panel and added a heat-embossed sentiment made using the Just Breathe stamp set in the center of the shells.
Finally, I used Copic markers in E31, E33, and E37 to add texture to the kraft panel and mimic the look of sand (a white pen was also used to add highlights). I foam-mounted my kraft panel onto the A2 card base slightly at an angle, and this finished my card!
Have fun stamping!
