So many of you left wonderful comments on my Abstract Sailboat card featuring Simon’s Waves background stamp. Thank you for your kind words!
I love that stamp. I need to remember to use it not only during Summer, but try and make something with it for Winter (maybe I’ll do that next). I have another card to share using the Waves background – this is a traditional landscape card with a pretty blue sky, lush green lawns, and yellow & pink blooming fields.

CARD DETAILS
Simon’s Home Sweet Home stamp set is a great one to pair with the Waves background. The stamped houses blend in perfectly with the colorful waves background and the little trees, fountains, and street lamps add to the overall neighborhood appeal.
Cutting colored cardstock stamped with the Waves background is so much fun. I’m thinking it would be fun to stamp some small scale patterned paper with this stamp as well, maybe a pattern with clouds to use for the sky, or a pattern with flowers to use as a field. I’ll have to dig through my stash to see if I have patterned paper like that, I am not a fan of patterned paper, so I don’t have a lot of it.
I shared this technique in a video last year, I call it “Color with Paper”
The trickiest part in making this card was arranging the Home Sweet Home houses stamp to follow the curve of the wave. I use my MISTI tool and gently curved the stamp to follow the lines on my background. I stamped the image twice: once on the waves background and once more on white cardstock. The white cardstock image was then colored with Copic markers and cut out using scissors. If you look closely, you’ll notice some distortion to the houses – because I had to stretch the stamp to follow the curve, some houses have become stretched too, the middle pink house shows that distortion the most.
I added some fussy cut clouds to the sky, stamped some birds flying up high and added sun. I used Nuvo Drops in yellow to make the center of the sun as I didn’t want to do any more fussy cutting.
I like how it turned out. I pretty little neighborhood in the Summer.

Another wonderful card, Yana! The colours are so lovely. The distortion could be related to natural “subsidence” you know. :-p
I love this card. Your coloring is awesome. You’re such an inspiration.
I definitely think this technique (and stamp) would work very well on a winter themed card! Look forward to seeing what you come up with!!! Thanks, Yana
I’m falling in love with this Waves stamp. I’ve loved your other creative makes with this stamp and seems the versatility of this stamp is endless. Thank you for sharing your beautiful inspiration.
Dear Yana,
Now I am even more glad that I ordered the waves stamp. I saw your earlier “coloring w/ paper” video and based on just that and your recent sailboat card, I ordered the stamp. Now this and I’m really excited to use this stamp when it arrives. One small note: at the end, you wrote that you were / are very happy with how this card turned out (I agree – it’s fabulous)and then “I pretty little neighborhood in the summer.” I’m guessing you wrote “I” where you meant “A.” Just letting you know so that you can amend this tiny item if you care to.
Thanks again for another wonderful tutorial and many good ideas.
