MFT Stamps | Make a Wish Birthday Cards. Video

Hello, stampers! Welcome back for another video tutorial. In this video, I am creating a Birthday card using the MFT Presents & Pupcakes stamp set! I planned to have a bright colorful background with lightly colored images and a colorful sentiment banner to tie it all in.

CARDS DETAILS

I used my mini MISTI stamping tool, 130lb white smooth cardstock, and stamped the images in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Next, I pulled out my OLO markers, I am enjoying these lately and I did very simple coloring to bring these images to life. I went with a light warm gray to color the dog and also the cat, I basically outlined the images using this marker and I also used a lighter gray to blend the color into white. So my animals are going to be white with just some slightly darker gray fur on the paws of the dog and some brown spots on the cat. I also used a pale red to add color to the inside of the ears, and the tongue and to create blush on their cheeks. A darker red was used for the inside of the mouth and a dark gray was used to color the nose. I colored the kitty in the same way with the exception of adding brown marks – I colored the ears brown, added brown stripes to the tail, and some brown spots to the legs and body.

Next, I used some yellow, green, and pink to color the pennants – just 2 colors for each, a light and a slightly darker color to add color variation. Next, I worked on a background for my card, I knew I wanted to create something bright and colorful so I started with a sheet of bright pink cardstock. I didn’t want to have just a plain sheet of color, I needed to add something to it and I was able to do that using the Colorful Confetti Background. This is a brilliant stamp, although it doesn’t look like much at first. But once you start stamping it you can create some brilliant backgrounds. You’d typically stamp this in multiple colors of ink, but since I already had a colorful background, I stamped it in watermark ink, to create a tone-on-tone background. I stamped it 4 times, rotating my paper after each impression.

Next, I needed to create a sentiment for my card, and I used a banner die and one of the sentiments that fit inside. The banner was cut using the It’s a Banner Day die set – I cut it from 3 shades of green cardstock, and next, I picked a sentiment from the Banner Day Celebrations sentiment set and heat embossed it in white embossing powder. The banner die allows you to create various color banners for your cards, you can have one or multiple banners, depending on your sentiment, I needed just one here and this banner also helped ground my scene as you’ll see I have my animals sitting on the banner.

To assemble the banner I used foam adhesive squares for the heat embossed part and foam mounted it over the primary die cut, next, I used glue and glued the dark green die cut pieces. I love how this allows me to create a dimensional-looking banner with various folds and shades of cardstock!

I adhered my background to an A2 side folding card base. Next, I foam mounted my sentiment banner in the center, somewhat closer to the bottom 1/3. Next, added my animals on top, adding the hot air balloons and the pennants – I have them overlap the balloons a bit. Lastly, I added the streamers and that finished my card!

I didn’t show this on camera, but I also used a white jelly roll pen and drew some white highlights on some of the elements – this always adds such a fun look! I love the result!
