Hero Arts | You Keep Me Grounded – Color Layering Mangrove

Hero Arts Color Layering stamp sets never cease to amaze me and the Color Layering Mangrove from Summer 2017 catalog is no exception. What makes this stamp set so good, in my opinion, is the clever sentiments. I chose to use “You Keep My Grounded” message, but there are other sentiments like “You’re The Root Of My Happiness”, “You’ve Grown On Me” and “Rooting For You”.

CARD DETAILS

I started working on this card by stamping the mangrove tree using my mini MISTI. I used Moss and Forever Green colors to stamp the leaves and Soft Brown along with Brown ombre for the tree trunk. I also stamped air roots using lighter green and cut all of these out using coordinating dies in my Platinum 6 die cutting machine. I think this is one of those stamp sets where a set of coordinating dies is a must. The images are detailed and it would be rather difficult to cut them out by hand.

I heat embossed “You Keep Me Grounded” sentiment in white embossing powder onto a strip of black cardstock and also stamped and die-cut a stork.

It took me a bit of time to figure out what I wanted to do for the background. I knew I wanted to use the Tropical Foliage background so I stamped it in Soft Granite ink. After I layered my die cut tree over it I felt I needed to add something else to help it stand out as it was getting lost.

I added a layer of vellum, a round background piece stamped with Brushstroke background (it was a leftover from one of my previous projects) and a black cardstock panel. The latter helped to frame everything and direct the eye to the mangrove tree.

I foam mounted several air roots over the tree and also added a few white enamel dots I have found in my stash.
