Hero Arts | Love You Big Time Blue Whale Card

I simply adore Hero Arts Color Layering Whale set. I’ve already shared one card using this set a couple of days ago but I also wanted to try and make a funny card and see if I could maybe incorporate googly eyes into that project.

CARD DETAILS

I started working on this project by stamping two whales using my mini MISTI. I used Pool, Deep Ocean and Navy ink colors from Hero Arts for both and cut images out using a coordinating die in my Platinum 6 die cutting machine.

For my sentiment I decided to go with “Love You Big Time” and I heat embossed it in white onto black cardstock. I think this is such a clever message and it pairs up rather well with the whale. I’d love to use it more in the future with other large scale objects, maybe a skyscraper, a mountain etc.

I didn’t really know what I wanted to do for a background for this card, I thought about doing some Distress ink blending and creating a light blue gradient, but I came across a background I had stamped some month ago and decided to use it. I often stamp backgrounds and just keep them around on my desk for future use – this saves a lot of time!

My background was stamped using Blizzard Bold Prints background stamp in Tide Pool, Deep Ocean and Navy. I trimmed it to be 4 x 5 1/4″ and foam mounted onto an A2 top folding card base. While this background looked nice, it was a bit too busy for my images so I added a layer of vellum to mute it and that seems to have done the trick.

I foam mounted both whales onto the card, I cut the tail off one of them and also foam mounted it onto the card creating the illusion that there are 3 and not 2 objects on my project. I also added several hearts floating in between the whales and finally added googly eyes. You can definitely go without them if you are not a fan, but I think they make this card super fun!
