Hello, friends! June kit from Hero Arts inspired me like no other and had me making a card after card. The project I have today was created using an add-on stamp set from this month kit – the Color Layering Tiger. I keep saying this, but I am always fascinated by the imagination of Hero’s illustrators – images they chose to use for their layering sets are always so clever and unique!

CARD DETAILS
I started working on this card by stamping the tiger onto white paper using Hero Arts Butter Bar and Caramel ink pads. This image has only 2 layers and therefore doesn’t need a lot of colors of ink to look realistic. I used coordinating die and cut the tiger out in my Platinum 6 die cutting machine. I also stamped and cut out a few grassy patches to later use to complete my scene; I used Moss ink for stamping.
To create a background for this card I used one of the new stencils and texture paste. I first colored my paste with the help of Butter Bar ink to be a light yellow color (I pressed the ink pad onto my craft mat, next mixed in the paste with a palette knife to colorize it). I applied the paste somewhat unevenly onto kraft cardstock panel, let it sit for about 5 minutes and added white embossing powder on top. If you’d like to see a video tutorial for this technique (minus coloring the paste) I have one here.
The reason I added white embossing powder over the colored paste is simple – I didn’t like the color of paste I got. I wished it had been a bit more saturated, but for that it would have been better to use a re-inker and I didn’t have one. I didn’t do a good job covering the background with embossing powder (this was intentional) and I left just a few small sections powder-free. Next I used my heat tool, heat set the powder and bubbled up the paste underneath it. I love this bubbled up look here.
My kraft panel was trimmed to 4 x 5 1/4″ and foam mounted onto an A2 top folding card base. Next I foam mounted my die cut tiger and added a white heat embossed sentiment. I tucked in a few grass patches to add a bit of green to this card design.
Lastly, I added several black enamel dots from my stash to tie in the black sentiment strip.

PIN THIS PROJECT
Are you on Pinterest? I’d love for your to pin this project if you like it! Thanks!
Stunning card! It feels so African. Great stencil and the tiger!
I really like the tribal-ness (I just made that word up!!) of the stencil and also the background stamp. The stencil looks good with embossing paste. Exotic looking. Thanks for showing the tiger all layered up! I’ve been wondering what it would look like stamped. Thank you, Yana.
Love the card, I purchased several things this time around, can not wait to get my stuff so I can start creating
Love the stencil and texture paste background…and that tiger just creeping on to the card from the left-hand side. Lovely!
LOVE it – the tiger is magnificent 🙂
Beautiful. I really love the added black dots. Great background with the texture paste. Awesome tiger.
Your background is great – love the dimension created with the texture paste. It is a perfect back drop for the awesome tigers !
Gorgeous Yana! Love the texture in your background!
