Welcome back for another episode of the Color Layering with Yana video series! In each one of my monthly videos I explore different ink pad and embossing powder color options for Hero Arts Color Layering sets and will hopefully inspire you to stamp! These videos are published on Hero’s blog and Youtube channel on Mondays following the My Monthly Hero Blog Hops and I’m sharing them on my blog as well.
In this video & episode I am taking a closer look at a brand new Armadillo set! This time in addition to stamping my layering images to color them I also used coloring mediums to show different ways you can use your layering stamps.

CARD DETAILS
The Armadillo set is pretty easy to align – you start with the outline layer, add solid and finish it off with a detail layer. This Color Layering Armadillo has an outline to it and that allows us to use it now only with the additional layers, but it also lets us color it using our favorite coloring medium.
To be able to color this image with alcohol markers I stamped it in Hero Arts Intense Black ink and next used my Copics (E79, E37, E33 and E31 for the armadillo and YG25, YG17 and YG67 for the cacti) to color.
If your other color layering stamps have an outline to them – you can also color them with your favorite medium. I decided to go with Copics, but that can be a watercolor, colored pencils or even ink blending for some quick pop of color.
Let’s take a look at some of the cards I made using this Armadillo. First up is an Arma-dorable card!
I used Soft Pool ink to blend a light blue background. Next, I foam mounted my armadillo stamped in Black, Butter Bar and Caramel and two cacti images stamped in Green Apple and Forever Green.
I also added a few pink cacti blooms stamped in Soft Pink and Rose Madder.
For my card #2 and #3 I wanted to add a graphic looking background so I used the Luggage Tag Alphabet dies to cut out an entire panel for my card.
I kept my dies connected, I just removed the bottom row and I’ve been using these like a cover die for my cards. I cut one out of black and one out of kraft to look like a desert background for my card.
I adhered these backgrounds onto A2 white card bases and foam mounted my armadillos and cacti colored using Copic markers on top. I added a simple “Looking Sharp” sentiment to both.
Finally, I used champagne sequins to embellish these cards.
For my next card I used the leftover letters to spell “Rollin”. I wanted my sentiment to say “Keep On Rollin”.
I stamped the “Keep On” part but wanted to use large letters for the “Rollin” part. I staggered them and nestled my armadillo in-between.
I used foam adhesive tape to foam mount the letters in place – I wanted to pop them up on my card. I also foam mounted the armadillo with a few cacti and some cacti blooms in pink and red.
Next, I trimmed my panel to be about 4 1/4” tall. I wanted to adhere it onto an A2 kraft card base as I wanted some more of that kraft to show on the card. I stamped a background using a Tribal Stripes Bold Prints stamp and Versamark ink on this kraft card front just to add some interest to my card. I adhered the armadillo panel on top and again embellished this card with the Champagne mix sequins. I also used a white gel pen to add a white highlight to my armadillo.
I’ve been enjoying adding this little touch lately. Here’s one more card I made using the Armadillo set.
For this one, identical to the previous card I used a darker armadillo that was stamped in Black, Caramel and Cup o’ Joe inks.
Have fun stamping!
