Hello! They are new to me as well and I was delighted to learn a little bit more about them and get to play with their products.

I have 3 cards to share with you all featuring their new Big & Bold stamp line, the new designs for July 2019. These are available exclusively at Simon Says Stamp for the first 2 days after the launch, so July 3rd and July 4th, and after that, on July 5th they will also become available on the Colorado Craft Company’s website.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Watch my video tutorial below or on Youtube to learn how I made the cards I’m sharing today.

BIG & BOLD SETS BY COLORADO CRAFT COMPANY

These stamp sets do have a bit of a higher price point, but they are larger in size and are very practical for those who like to color. Each of the Big & Bold sets features one large size image that easily takes up the entire space of an A2 card and the stamp sets also have a number of coordinating sentiments done in various styles to complement the image.

The images in these have a lot of detail to them and I’ve found that to be extremely helpful when it comes to coloring them. I love to color, but I’m not an expert at any kind of coloring, so I try to get all the help I can and having that detail on these stamps is very practical.

I have 3 sets from this series, the Sweetest Birthday Cone, Birthday Cake, and Sweet Friend Cupcake.

Because of the size of these images, you have the freedom to really go to town with your favorite coloring mediums and add as many details as you like. You also have a lot of room to dress up your cards with additional mediums and add in more detail with a white pen for example, or glossy accents or even some glitter for a nice sugary finish on these.

CARD DETAILS

I love the look of pop art and so this has inspired me to use the kind of colors and type of coloring for these cards to make them look like pop art.

I started by stamping the image outline in alcohol marker friendly ink on white paper. My coloring medium of choice these days is alcohol markers. In fact, I just got some re-inkers for my stash and I can now really go all out when it comes to coloring with my markers. A few years ago I was so intimidated by Copic coloring I’d only color the tiniest images where it was impossible to do any shading or blending, so it was more like coloring using just one marker and adding little bits of color.

I know a lot of you are intimidated by coloring, it doesn’t matter what coloring medium it is, it’s just scary and I get it, it’s still scary for me at times as well. But I don’t let the fear of messing up stop me from having fun and enjoying the process. So what if I don’t color it perfectly? It’s not a race, it’s not a competition, it’s a pleasant past time, it’s meant to help you relax and unwind, forget about your problems and just do something to enjoy yourself.

The marker colors I used are the following:

  • R39, R27, R24, R22, and R20 for the cherry;
  • C3, C1 and O markers to color the frosting;
  • E33, E31, and E51 to color the cone;
  • YG03 to color the stem on the cherry;
  • RV19, RV17, RV14, RV13, RV11, and RV10 to color the ice cream
  • B00 and B000 to color the background.

To help me color these images I went on Pinterest and I looked up colored images on ice cream, cupcakes, and cake slices. It was very helpful to see how other people have colored similar images in the past and that gave me some ideas in regards to my coloring here.

Copic markers used: Y21 (background), BG18, BG13, BG11 (cupcake wrapper); RB34, RV11, RV10 (cupcake); YG03, G94, G99 (leaves); R20, R22, R24, R27, R39 (strawberry)

To achieve that pop art look I also colored the background on my images. This is not something everyone likes to do for various reasons, some people like a white background, some don’t like to use of all marker ink to color the background, and some just don’t have the time. I personally love a nonwhite background. I do like to use the chisel nib of my marker for speedy coloring and then I just come back with the brush nib and add more color next to the stamped outline.

Copic markers used: RV10 (background); BG18, BG13, BG11 (cake); E51, E31, Y15, Y17 (cream)

Finally, to finish the card I stamped my sentiment – it reads “Sending sweet wishes your way”. I overlapped the ice cream quite a bit to have a one layer card. I also used a white Sakura pen in size 8 and 10 to add some white dots to the image – they add a nice touch to the finished card. And I used a white pen to color over the black outline that marks the highlight on the cherry.

To add some sugar to my card I used Nuvo Glitter Accents and coated the frosting on the top of the ice cream and finally use Glossy Accents to coat the cherry on top!

  1. Thank you for sharing your ideas and talents with us. I’m very new at coloring and you have helped me out a lot. I have to say that I really like the Birthday Cake the best. There are so many different opportunities to use it. I like to make larger, 5″ x 7″ cards and these big stamp sets are perfect. Looking forward to seeing another video soon.

    1. Love the ice cream cone! The pink ice cream looks sooo delicious!

      I’m fairly new to copic coloring, and appreciate your encouragement. It is all trial and error! Would especially love to try these new stamps out as well. Thanks for your awesome videos

  2. I can’t believe you don’t consider yourself an expert in coloring because these designs look amazing! I love cake, and I love ice cream so I’ll have to say that I can’t choose between the three. Love these!

  3. Yana, You do a lot of justice to the items that you color, paint, draw etc. I believe you can do anything you put your mind to. As I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while now I actually think you can do anything! The ice cream cone with the blue background looked so good I wanted to get one. I too, live in Colorado didn’t realize there was a craft company here.
    Love, love your projects as usual.

  4. How fantastic! It’s a hard choice between the cupcake and the ice cream! But all three are really lovely and yummy! I love Colorado Craft – their lovely legs series is so unique and fun, and these new big stamp sets look fabulous too! Thanks for the chance to win!

  5. It’s a hard choice between the cupcake and the ice cream! But all three cards are really lovely and yummy! I love Colorado Craft Company – their lovely legs series is so unique and fun, and these new big stamp sets look fabulous too! Thanks for the chance to win!

  6. Thank you Yana for delivering another amazing card. These new products are great. I’ve never heard of them and wouldn’t have heard of them if it weren’t for you. That’s what happened before. You showed the Sizzix large die of the month and before I knew it, I was a member! Thanks again! -ann

  7. I really like them all!! If I absolutely had to choose it would be the cupcake…. no wait the ice cream cone. I really appreciate what you said about coloring with copics. I am a bit intimidated with coloring my images but I think I will just go for it!! Thank you.

  8. I love all the Big & Bold stamp sets. I loved the youtube video of how easy you made it seem to color. But there is a very special place in my heart for the Lovely Legs set You had me at Meow. A must have!

    1. Yana-
      The Cupcake card takes the bank!
      The colors you used are so vivid!! Just love it!!
      CCC’s Lovely Legs stamps are so darn adorable!!
      Thanks for sharing your talent with us!!

  9. Absolutely impossible to pick just one card. I like them all! I look forward to your videos because I love your accent! and your videos are clear and concise. You always make your cards look so easy. The mark of a professional!

  10. Pop art colored backgrounds are the best. Have you considered masking the image and using a brush to add color to the background instead of copic alcohol ink? I love all three images and the legs stamp for cat lovers is adorable!

  11. Your cards are beautiful…amt pick one,,,I love them all! I also love Colorado Craft Company stamps…I have a couple of their legs stamps. I think these new big stamps are awesome and would love to win a set! Either way your coloring and cards are great!

  12. I find alcohol marker colouring very intimidating. I never know which colours blend well together and by the time I settle on a combo, I’m constantly stressing myself out wondering whether the image looks good or not. I am gonna try and take your words to heart. Relax and just colour for practice, for enjoyment. Now about the cards, originally I like the ice cream cone but I think I love the cupcake more. I love the yellow background!

  13. Hi Yana! My favorite (although hard to just pick one) is the ice cream cone! I love all your videos in general.. thanks to you i’ve learned so much with card making! You are truly an inspiration! I look forward to many more!

  14. Your coloring is amazing! I don’t have copic markers but I have the spectrum ones. I am inspired now to take them out and play with them. My favorite card is the ice cream cone with blue background. Although they are all lovey. Thank you for sharing with us.

  15. Thank you for sharing. I wish my coloring was as great as yours. Although all 3 are ‘delicious’, I absolutely love the ice cream cone. These new stamps from Colorado Craft are wonderful. Sue

  16. Wow these images are so huge and wonderful, and I love that it only took 13 minutes to turn one into a fantastic card. I would stamp up a bunch and then colour them at my leisure. What fun! Yana as always beautiful production, wonderful tips and amazing cards. Thanks for introducing us to Colarado Craft Company and for truly inspiring.

  17. Fabulous! I loved watching you color the ice cream cone so that would have to be my favorite. I have yet to master Copic coloring so any tips along the way are so helpful. Thanks.

  18. I love the ice cream, it’s my favorite. Love the colors choose you used. I’m learning how to use the Copic markers. The blending part. Enjoy your video…. thank you for sharing.
