They are new to me as well and I was delighted to learn a little bit more about them and get to play with their products.

I have 3 cards to share with you all featuring their new Big & Bold stamp line, the new designs for July 2019. These are available exclusively at Simon Says Stamp for the first 2 days after the launch, so July 3rd and July 4th, and after that, on July 5th they will also become available on the Colorado Craft Company’s website.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Watch my video tutorial below or on Youtube to learn how I made the cards I’m sharing today.

BIG & BOLD SETS BY COLORADO CRAFT COMPANY

These stamp sets do have a bit of a higher price point, but they are larger in size and are very practical for those who like to color. Each of the Big & Bold sets features one large size image that easily takes up the entire space of an A2 card and the stamp sets also have a number of coordinating sentiments done in various styles to complement the image.

The images in these have a lot of detail to them and I’ve found that to be extremely helpful when it comes to coloring them. I love to color, but I’m not an expert at any kind of coloring, so I try to get all the help I can and having that detail on these stamps is very practical.

I have 3 sets from this series, the Sweetest Birthday Cone, Birthday Cake, and Sweet Friend Cupcake.

Because of the size of these images, you have the freedom to really go to town with your favorite coloring mediums and add as many details as you like. You also have a lot of room to dress up your cards with additional mediums and add in more detail with a white pen for example, or glossy accents or even some glitter for a nice sugary finish on these.

CARD DETAILS

I love the look of pop art and so this has inspired me to use the kind of colors and type of coloring for these cards to make them look like pop art.

I started by stamping the image outline in alcohol marker friendly ink on white paper. My coloring medium of choice these days is alcohol markers. In fact, I just got some re-inkers for my stash and I can now really go all out when it comes to coloring with my markers. A few years ago I was so intimidated by Copic coloring I’d only color the tiniest images where it was impossible to do any shading or blending, so it was more like coloring using just one marker and adding little bits of color.

I know a lot of you are intimidated by coloring, it doesn’t matter what coloring medium it is, it’s just scary and I get it, it’s still scary for me at times as well. But I don’t let the fear of messing up stop me from having fun and enjoying the process. So what if I don’t color it perfectly? It’s not a race, it’s not a competition, it’s a pleasant past time, it’s meant to help you relax and unwind, forget about your problems and just do something to enjoy yourself.

The marker colors I used are the following:

  • R39, R27, R24, R22, and R20 for the cherry;
  • C3, C1 and O markers to color the frosting;
  • E33, E31, and E51 to color the cone;
  • YG03 to color the stem on the cherry;
  • RV19, RV17, RV14, RV13, RV11, and RV10 to color the ice cream
  • B00 and B000 to color the background.

To help me color these images I went on Pinterest and I looked up colored images on ice cream, cupcakes, and cake slices. It was very helpful to see how other people have colored similar images in the past and that gave me some ideas in regards to my coloring here.

Copic markers used: Y21 (background), BG18, BG13, BG11 (cupcake wrapper); RB34, RV11, RV10 (cupcake); YG03, G94, G99 (leaves); R20, R22, R24, R27, R39 (strawberry)

To achieve that pop art look I also colored the background on my images. This is not something everyone likes to do for various reasons, some people like a white background, some don’t like to use of all marker ink to color the background, and some just don’t have the time. I personally love a nonwhite background. I do like to use the chisel nib of my marker for speedy coloring and then I just come back with the brush nib and add more color next to the stamped outline.

Copic markers used: RV10 (background); BG18, BG13, BG11 (cake); E51, E31, Y15, Y17 (cream)

Finally, to finish the card I stamped my sentiment – it reads “Sending sweet wishes your way”. I overlapped the ice cream quite a bit to have a one layer card. I also used a white Sakura pen in size 8 and 10 to add some white dots to the image – they add a nice touch to the finished card. And I used a white pen to color over the black outline that marks the highlight on the cherry.

To add some sugar to my card I used Nuvo Glitter Accents and coated the frosting on the top of the ice cream and finally use Glossy Accents to coat the cherry on top!

  1. Ok I love love love the cards with the color backgrounds! You did an outstanding job at coloring I’m so jealous. My favorite was the ice-cream because it looked so dimensional but the cupcake looked good enough to eat. Thanks for the inspiration as always amazingly done.

  2. I love these new stamps as they are a larger size and as you stated in the video fill an A2 card. All three of your cards are beautiful but I like the cupcake one the best. I also like the colored background as it adds depth to the card.

  3. Thanks for the chance to win one of those wonderful and fun stamps. I really like all three cards you shared, and I can’t decide if the cone or the cupcake are my favorite – because they both looks amazing.
    Warm regards from Tina M.

  4. I love all the cards you make! You have such a great talent and hope to learn more tips from you. My favourite would have to the cupcake card! With much love from Singapore!♡

  5. I have loved your style for a very long time! But these Colorado Craft stamps take the “cupcake”! Loving the size and the fun colors that can be used to color them. I too reach for my Copics the most often! They are a little pricey but the size and quality looks worth every penny. I would love to have the cupcake! Thank you for offering the giveaways!

  6. That multi-layered cake is awesome! Thank you for sharing the list of Copic markers for each card – that is very helpful for beginners like me. These stamps are really outstanding – thanks Yana!

  7. Oh Yana, that ice cream cone looks good enough to eat. I think that is my favorite. I have very few copic markers but love the effect they give. A question for you, If you wanted to buy a big set of copic markers which set would you buy? I get so confused when I go to look at sets. Thank you for sharing today.

  8. LOVE these very awesome stamp sets! My Favorite is the BIG & BOLD SETS. I especially love the ice cream cone stamp set. Makes me want to go to the ice cram shop right now after a cone! Well, it is pretty hot out.

  9. I enjoy your tutorials as your voice is always so happy and soothing.
    I loved all three cards but my favorite is the ice cream cone as the colors are right up my alley.
    Thank you!

  10. These are all great cards but the cupcake one is my favorite. Love the shinny strawberry. Thanks for the pep talk on coloring large images with Copic Markers. I’m going to let your word ring in my ears when I color next time. I haven’t had to re-ink any of my pens yet either.

  11. Nothing stops my fb feed as fast as when I see you. I just love the big bold graphics on these!! The cupcake is my fav, I have always been fascinated with how perfectly beautiful the icing can be.
