Hello! Today I have something very special to share with all of you and I also have a giveaway to thank you for being my loyal subscribers and viewers. I have an utter pleasure to introduce you to a new stamp company called Colorado Craft Company. They are new to me as well and I was delighted to learn a little bit more about them and get to play with their products.

I have 3 cards to share with you all featuring their new Big & Bold stamp line, the new designs for July 2019. These are available exclusively at Simon Says Stamp for the first 2 days after the launch, so July 3rd and July 4th, and after that, on July 5th they will also become available on the Colorado Craft Company’s website.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Watch my video tutorial below or on Youtube to learn how I made the cards I’m sharing today.

BIG & BOLD SETS BY COLORADO CRAFT COMPANY

These stamp sets do have a bit of a higher price point, but they are larger in size and are very practical for those who like to color. Each of the Big & Bold sets features one large size image that easily takes up the entire space of an A2 card and the stamp sets also have a number of coordinating sentiments done in various styles to complement the image.

The images in these have a lot of detail to them and I’ve found that to be extremely helpful when it comes to coloring them. I love to color, but I’m not an expert at any kind of coloring, so I try to get all the help I can and having that detail on these stamps is very practical.

I have 3 sets from this series, the Sweetest Birthday Cone, Birthday Cake, and Sweet Friend Cupcake.

Because of the size of these images, you have the freedom to really go to town with your favorite coloring mediums and add as many details as you like. You also have a lot of room to dress up your cards with additional mediums and add in more detail with a white pen for example, or glossy accents or even some glitter for a nice sugary finish on these.

CARD DETAILS

I love the look of pop art and so this has inspired me to use the kind of colors and type of coloring for these cards to make them look like pop art.

I started by stamping the image outline in alcohol marker friendly ink on white paper. My coloring medium of choice these days is alcohol markers. In fact, I just got some re-inkers for my stash and I can now really go all out when it comes to coloring with my markers. A few years ago I was so intimidated by Copic coloring I’d only color the tiniest images where it was impossible to do any shading or blending, so it was more like coloring using just one marker and adding little bits of color.

I know a lot of you are intimidated by coloring, it doesn’t matter what coloring medium it is, it’s just scary and I get it, it’s still scary for me at times as well. But I don’t let the fear of messing up stop me from having fun and enjoying the process. So what if I don’t color it perfectly? It’s not a race, it’s not a competition, it’s a pleasant past time, it’s meant to help you relax and unwind, forget about your problems and just do something to enjoy yourself.

The marker colors I used are the following:

  • R39, R27, R24, R22, and R20 for the cherry;
  • C3, C1 and O markers to color the frosting;
  • E33, E31, and E51 to color the cone;
  • YG03 to color the stem on the cherry;
  • RV19, RV17, RV14, RV13, RV11, and RV10 to color the ice cream
  • B00 and B000 to color the background.

To help me color these images I went on Pinterest and I looked up colored images on ice cream, cupcakes, and cake slices. It was very helpful to see how other people have colored similar images in the past and that gave me some ideas in regards to my coloring here.

Copic markers used: Y21 (background), BG18, BG13, BG11 (cupcake wrapper); RB34, RV11, RV10 (cupcake); YG03, G94, G99 (leaves); R20, R22, R24, R27, R39 (strawberry)

To achieve that pop art look I also colored the background on my images. This is not something everyone likes to do for various reasons, some people like a white background, some don’t like to use of all marker ink to color the background, and some just don’t have the time. I personally love a nonwhite background. I do like to use the chisel nib of my marker for speedy coloring and then I just come back with the brush nib and add more color next to the stamped outline.

Copic markers used: RV10 (background); BG18, BG13, BG11 (cake); E51, E31, Y15, Y17 (cream)

Finally, to finish the card I stamped my sentiment – it reads “Sending sweet wishes your way”. I overlapped the ice cream quite a bit to have a one layer card. I also used a white Sakura pen in size 8 and 10 to add some white dots to the image – they add a nice touch to the finished card. And I used a white pen to color over the black outline that marks the highlight on the cherry.

To add some sugar to my card I used Nuvo Glitter Accents and coated the frosting on the top of the ice cream and finally use Glossy Accents to coat the cherry on top!

  1. Bonjour Yana
    I enjoy looking at the 3 delicious, appetizing sweet. The shades are so delicately inserted, it makes those 3 sweet cards real. I love the blue cake. I have never seen an all blue cake. You know, creation lies in the imagination.
    Merci Yana for your beautiful work. My eyes eat the blue cake and the muffin and ice-cream I reserve them for another day.
    Yolande

  2. Your cards always blow me away, Yana, and these are no exception! I’m in love with all three of them! I love big, bold designs and as soon as I saw this post in my e-mail feed, I had to go buy the sets. 😀 Colorado Craft Comapny is newish to me too, but I’m so very happy to have seen these designs or I might have missed this release. Though I love all three of your card designs and adore that they are all just a little bit different, the cupcake card won as my favorite in the end. I love the contrast between your color choices and the bold contrast the pop of red and the black sentiment label make! Although, I really love the unexpected color choices in the cake card too!!!

  3. Oh Yana, I love all the coloring. Thank you for being honest and telling us about your coloring journey. I feel depressed when i see people over instagram showing their coloring talented. Then I stopped coloring. Any way i love the cake coloring the most. TFS

  4. I’m already a subscriber to your newsletter because I never want to miss any of your great projects! These new Pop-Art, large sized stamps are fantastic, especially since I make a lot of 5×7 cards. My favorite is your Sweetest Birthday Cone card. Not only is the coloring beautiful, but I like the sentiments in the stamp set.

  5. Great cards, Yana! I mostly make 5×7 cards so i’m interested to see how awesome one of these giant stamps would look (great I’m sure). My favorite is the cupcake! as for white background vs. solid background I like the colored background on these particular images. Also, I am already subscribed to your newsletter-I always look forward to your videos!

  6. Wow Yana! Such gorgeous cards! I love watching your videos and I’ve learned so may things from watching you! I’m so glad you do what you do! These stamps are great! I like the background colored the best! I find myself at least adding a background that fades out from my images! Thank you so much for all the inspiration you provide for all of us!

  7. What gorgeous stamps. I think I like the cupcake best. Your cone turned out amazing. I preferred the ice cream before you added the deeper colours but it still looks great. I think when it was paler it matched the cone better as it’s quite light. I like the coloured background. I’ve taken quite a few COPIC classes. In most cases the highlight should be coloured unless something is very smooth and shiny. Like polished metal or glass. But wet surfaces tend to reflect a lot of white like a lake or a drink in a glass. So your instinct to leave the ice cream highlights white works as it’s a wet surface.

  8. Oh my goodness those stamp sets are gorgeous and your cards are AMAZING!! My favorite is the ice cream cone!! And I like a colored background! Keep up the good work!!

  9. My favourite card for today is gotta be the ice cream cone. All though I really like all three cards.
    I just signed up for your newsletter but I do come every day to see what you are doing. Thank you for the
    give away. Would love to win as my birthday is July 6th.

  10. I love these large stamps, but I must say, the ice cream cone is my favorite, but only because I just LOVE ice cream! It is my weakness. Great cards, Yana, and I will try to stop being so fearful of using my Copics.

  11. Oh my stars! I love these new stamp sets!!! Last week, I made a dozen thank you cards featuring ice cream cones on the front with gift cards to our local Sweet Peaks ice cream shop on the inside. Although all three of your cards are beautiful, the ice cream cone is my favorite. You asked in the video about the background; definitely prefer the color to the white!
    Thank you for your delightful tutorials!

  12. Hi Yana! I love all 3 cards but if I had to choose one as my favorite I would say the cupcake one because I love how detailed the stamp is and you can make the cupcake lots of different fun colors. 🙂

  13. Hi, Yana I really really adore your ideas, taste of color, and your way of execution the cards. You always inspire me when it comes to card making and I am keen to watch every single video you upload. Thank you very much and waiting for more of your creative work.

  14. Great video tutorial as always! You really make it look less intimidating. I recently discovered this company & fell in love with the Lovely Legs stamp sets, they’re so incredible & unique.
    My favorite card of yours is the ice cream cone, it would be an awesome bday invitation.
    Thank you again for sharing your talents!
