Hello! They are new to me as well and I was delighted to learn a little bit more about them and get to play with their products.

I have 3 cards to share with you all featuring their new Big & Bold stamp line, the new designs for July 2019. These are available exclusively at Simon Says Stamp for the first 2 days after the launch, so July 3rd and July 4th, and after that, on July 5th they will also become available on the Colorado Craft Company’s website.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Watch my video tutorial below or on Youtube to learn how I made the cards I’m sharing today.

BIG & BOLD SETS BY COLORADO CRAFT COMPANY

These stamp sets do have a bit of a higher price point, but they are larger in size and are very practical for those who like to color. Each of the Big & Bold sets features one large size image that easily takes up the entire space of an A2 card and the stamp sets also have a number of coordinating sentiments done in various styles to complement the image.

The images in these have a lot of detail to them and I’ve found that to be extremely helpful when it comes to coloring them. I love to color, but I’m not an expert at any kind of coloring, so I try to get all the help I can and having that detail on these stamps is very practical.

I have 3 sets from this series, the Sweetest Birthday Cone, Birthday Cake, and Sweet Friend Cupcake.

Because of the size of these images, you have the freedom to really go to town with your favorite coloring mediums and add as many details as you like. You also have a lot of room to dress up your cards with additional mediums and add in more detail with a white pen for example, or glossy accents or even some glitter for a nice sugary finish on these.

CARD DETAILS

I love the look of pop art and so this has inspired me to use the kind of colors and type of coloring for these cards to make them look like pop art.

Colorado Craft Company | Cardmaking & Coloring in Pop Art Style. Handmade card ideas by Yana Smakula. Video + Giveaways

I started by stamping the image outline in alcohol marker friendly ink on white paper. My coloring medium of choice these days is alcohol markers. In fact, I just got some re-inkers for my stash and I can now really go all out when it comes to coloring with my markers. A few years ago I was so intimidated by Copic coloring I’d only color the tiniest images where it was impossible to do any shading or blending, so it was more like coloring using just one marker and adding little bits of color.

I know a lot of you are intimidated by coloring, it doesn’t matter what coloring medium it is, it’s just scary and I get it, it’s still scary for me at times as well. But I don’t let the fear of messing up stop me from having fun and enjoying the process. So what if I don’t color it perfectly? It’s not a race, it’s not a competition, it’s a pleasant past time, it’s meant to help you relax and unwind, forget about your problems and just do something to enjoy yourself.

The marker colors I used are the following:

  • R39, R27, R24, R22, and R20 for the cherry;
  • C3, C1 and O markers to color the frosting;
  • E33, E31, and E51 to color the cone;
  • YG03 to color the stem on the cherry;
  • RV19, RV17, RV14, RV13, RV11, and RV10 to color the ice cream
  • B00 and B000 to color the background.

To help me color these images I went on Pinterest and I looked up colored images on ice cream, cupcakes, and cake slices. It was very helpful to see how other people have colored similar images in the past and that gave me some ideas in regards to my coloring here.

Copic markers used: Y21 (background), BG18, BG13, BG11 (cupcake wrapper); RB34, RV11, RV10 (cupcake); YG03, G94, G99 (leaves); R20, R22, R24, R27, R39 (strawberry)

To achieve that pop art look I also colored the background on my images. This is not something everyone likes to do for various reasons, some people like a white background, some don’t like to use of all marker ink to color the background, and some just don’t have the time. I personally love a nonwhite background. I do like to use the chisel nib of my marker for speedy coloring and then I just come back with the brush nib and add more color next to the stamped outline.

Copic markers used: RV10 (background); BG18, BG13, BG11 (cake); E51, E31, Y15, Y17 (cream)

Finally, to finish the card I stamped my sentiment – it reads “Sending sweet wishes your way”. I overlapped the ice cream quite a bit to have a one layer card. I also used a white Sakura pen in size 8 and 10 to add some white dots to the image – they add a nice touch to the finished card. And I used a white pen to color over the black outline that marks the highlight on the cherry.

To add some sugar to my card I used Nuvo Glitter Accents and coated the frosting on the top of the ice cream and finally use Glossy Accents to coat the cherry on top!

  1. Your coloring really brought these images to life! I do like the colored background and the added white to make them pop too, I’m drawn to the cake as I do adore the turquoise color. Thanks for the chance to play with a bigger image. vdutchr@cox.net

  2. Love the big pop art stamps. The coloring is perfect. I like the card with the blue background. Like where the sentiment was placed. Very cool! I really like all the pop art stamps, but my favorite is the “sweet friend cupcake” How unique are the legs stamps!! Just love the “You had me at Meow”

  3. Hey, I love your style and technique tips, look forward to your videos as frequently as i can find them. I subscribed to your blog a few months ago, so cant do it again. But i love and am torn between the cupcake and ice cream cone with this new release. I have been seeing the Colorado craft stamp set and find them to be very unique, I like what they have done with the leg series.

  4. I really enjoy watching your videos and look forward to every single one! My favorite card today is the ice cream cone. I love that you give so many details when you color. You make me think I might actually someday be able to color. 🙂

  5. It is very hard to pick a favorite of these three cards. It would have to be either the ice cream cone or the cupcake. I love the blue background, but I also can’t stop admiring the way you colored the strawberry on the cupcake. I was able to learn so much from watching you color. It is intimidating and, because we look at our own work so critically, we don’t see it the way others do. I am always so grateful for the way you teach on your videos. I have three favorite designers on the various blog hops, and you are definitely my number one whenever anyone asks. These stamp sets are amazing. I really like the Big and Bold collection.

  6. Hi Yana! I love these cards and the stamps are great. Love how big they are and can cover an A2 sized card. My favorite is the ice cream cone but the cup cake comes in at a close 2nd. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Wow! These sets are fantastic! I love the larger size and the way you have coloured them. So difficult to choose a favourite, but it would have to be the slice of cake only because it is so different to anything I have seen before. Thanks so much for all you tips with the colouring and for the wonderful inspiration! Love to keep up with you blog and videos!

  8. I love these pop art stamp sets and the cards you created with them are beautiful. If I had to choose one card, I’d go with the cupcake card because I love the bright colored background.

    Thank you for sharing!

  9. I’m already a subscriber and love to receive your posts. I’m in awe of your coloring talent, I love that cupcake stamp and how you colored it, so totally amazing. Love baking cupcakes, love eating cupcakes, and love coloring cupcakes.

  10. It was a toss up between the ice cream cone and cupcake. Both are very nice. I’m not a fan of the color yellow so probably the ice cream. I, too, am still learning to color with Copics. It’s funny to go back and look at the first cards I colored. It definitely takes practice. Love watching Sandy Allnock color with Copics as well. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  11. These are all fantastic Yana and I am SO excited to see a company focus on such large images especially for those of us who love to colour. I am trying to learn to w/c & Copic colour but I get frustrated because the images I have are often too small to practice on esp. when it comes to blending. So these are exciting to see.
    I love the ice cream but I have to admit, the cupcake looks like fun to colour too!
    Thanks for sharing this genius company and the chance to win!

  12. I love them all but if I have to choose I guess the ice cream cone. Enjoy watching you colour with copics. Your highlights are very effective. Thanks for the inspiration!

  13. I love all of your cards but, my favorite is the Ice Cream Cone Card. I love how you colored it. They are such cheerful colors. I already subscribed to your Newsletter.

  14. Wow this release is incredible! I am always looking for unique stamps and I am so excited for this release. The birthday stamps are awesome – I love the huge size and love that they can go off the cover because they are so big. I am a pop art fan and this is amazing. Then I have been running much of my life just to try to keep fit and for mental wellness. The runners set is off the chart! It is so hard to find images of running related themes! Thank you so much!!!!

  15. Yana, I LOVE your video!!! I told you this over on the YouTube Channel…. I heard years ago, that Big is BETTER in art! I think it’s because it shows off your ability! You did WONDERFULLY with these images! I JUST discovered this company, The Colorado Craft Company myself, & have two of the large florals. The third is in my cart over on SSS & WILL BE ordered SOON! LOL I ADORE FLORALS! AND these LARGE YUMMY TREATS are NEXT for me! You did a WONDERFUL JOB with them! I see ONE in particular you are giving away that my daughter & her friends would LOVE! 😉 They’re runners! AND they have a run coming up…. 😉 THANK YOU for the giveaway!!! We are EVER GRATEFUL for giveaways! 😉 WONDERFUL IDEAS are coming to mind as I think of how to use these BIG & BOLD Stamps!!! ;)<3

  16. OMG I didn’t get the chance I was so excited to say how much I love your cards and how you colored them. Your cards really make the images stand out and scream buy me! The white dots you used are so perfect and I can’t wait to try this accent. I love the way you really captured the light source on the images! Thank you!

  17. I like the colored background (better than the white one). Always on the look out for stamps that have lots of space to color and, as you said, these definitely have that space. Thanks for the introduction to a new (to me) stamp company. My favorite? A tie between the cupcake and ice cream cone!

  18. Like everyone else, i just love them all, but my favorite is the ice cream cone! the coloring is perfect. I love all the hints that you have given us so that we may color our cards with confidence. Thanks. Enjoy your videos and look forward to watching them as they become available.

  19. Always love your creations! I like the Sweetest Birthday Cone card the best. Exactly the colors I would pick too! Love that bright pink.
    Love what you did with the sentiment in that one too btw! Tried it recently to add a sentiment in the same color as the stamp outline, over the stamp but it didn’t turn out that well. But you showed me that it is possible, so I’ll try it again soon but with a different stamp =) Thank you!

  20. Always love your creations! I like the Sweetest Birthday Cone card the best. Exactly the colors I would pick too! Love that bright pink.

  21. I just love images of ice cream and cupcakes. I think these are some of the best I have seen! How fun it would be to send someone the ice cream card with a gift card enclosed for an ice cream parlor. That would be my favorite kind of gift.

    1. Hi there Yana It’s so fun to watch you create!!! You’re very inspiring! Thanks also for bringing us new crafting companies! I really like the Sweet Friendship Cupcake stamp set…. So cute and what great sentiments! Thanks ((hug))

  22. Yana, just watched video. All the cards are so pretty. No matter what you color, it turns out lovely. Thanks for the coloring tips. I love the ice cream card best cause I love ice cream !!! Hugs

  23. I love them all but since I watched you do the ice cream ….I’ll pick that!!! It’s amazing to see it come together. The tutorial is sooo helpful!! Thanks so much Yana!!

  24. Oh WOW!!! I love all of them, but if I had to pick just one, it would be the cupcake. I don’t have any Colorado Craft Company stamps, but I need to get some ASAP. They have so many great designs. Thank you for sharing Yana!

  25. I loved the cupcake card. I am so jealous of individuals who can color so good. My coloring never seem to turn out. Guess I will just have to keep practicing. Thanks for your video. It was helpful

  26. I love your coloring and your explanation of how you do it. It’s inspiring me to go back to copic market coloring. Thank you firm that. It is hard to choose just one card since they all look awesome. I will have to go with the ice cream cone. Amazing colors, so vibrant. And thank you foe the video tutorials.

    Kathya Claude

  27. I love the Colorado Stamp Company! They’ve appeared some time ago in a british online craft shop I use. The lovely legs are ingenious!
    As for the stamps, I have to go with a cupcake. My first job in college was in a first cupcake bakery in our city. I still love to bake them ❤

  28. I’ve seen this stamp company, and I love their unique look. The cupcake is my favorite. Thank you for making Copic coloring be less intimidating. I’ve just started my collection and have referred to your fish chart often.

  29. I love the cupcake with the strawberry on top. I live in Georgia, USA and love strawberries. Your coloring techniques are very good and you describe how you achieve the look very well. Thank you. I’m new to stamping and coloring and find your youtube channel and blog very informative.

  30. I love your ice cream cone! I’m not great at Copic markers and am pretty intimidated even though I’m amassing a nice collection. I appreciate your video with color combos for beginners. It’s very helpful! Thanks for that, too!

  31. I love all three cards but, the ice cream cone is my favorite. I really like the size of these stamps. Can’t wait to get them, I have so many ideas spinning in my head already. Hugs, Sheila.

  32. These are all really interesting stamps & until I saw your YT I never would have attempted working with such large stamps. My favorite is the cupcake with the strawberry on top. It reminds me of the fields & fields of strawberries growing n our area of coastal CA. I also like the glossy accents touch. It’s a perfect crowning touch on top.
