They are new to me as well and I was delighted to learn a little bit more about them and get to play with their products.

I have 3 cards to share with you all featuring their new Big & Bold stamp line, the new designs for July 2019. These are available exclusively at Simon Says Stamp for the first 2 days after the launch, so July 3rd and July 4th, and after that, on July 5th they will also become available on the Colorado Craft Company’s website.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Watch my video tutorial below or on Youtube to learn how I made the cards I’m sharing today.

BIG & BOLD SETS BY COLORADO CRAFT COMPANY

These stamp sets do have a bit of a higher price point, but they are larger in size and are very practical for those who like to color. Each of the Big & Bold sets features one large size image that easily takes up the entire space of an A2 card and the stamp sets also have a number of coordinating sentiments done in various styles to complement the image.

The images in these have a lot of detail to them and I’ve found that to be extremely helpful when it comes to coloring them. I love to color, but I’m not an expert at any kind of coloring, so I try to get all the help I can and having that detail on these stamps is very practical.

I have 3 sets from this series, the Sweetest Birthday Cone, Birthday Cake, and Sweet Friend Cupcake.

Because of the size of these images, you have the freedom to really go to town with your favorite coloring mediums and add as many details as you like. You also have a lot of room to dress up your cards with additional mediums and add in more detail with a white pen for example, or glossy accents or even some glitter for a nice sugary finish on these.

CARD DETAILS

I love the look of pop art and so this has inspired me to use the kind of colors and type of coloring for these cards to make them look like pop art.

I started by stamping the image outline in alcohol marker friendly ink on white paper. My coloring medium of choice these days is alcohol markers. In fact, I just got some re-inkers for my stash and I can now really go all out when it comes to coloring with my markers. A few years ago I was so intimidated by Copic coloring I’d only color the tiniest images where it was impossible to do any shading or blending, so it was more like coloring using just one marker and adding little bits of color.

I know a lot of you are intimidated by coloring, it doesn’t matter what coloring medium it is, it’s just scary and I get it, it’s still scary for me at times as well. But I don’t let the fear of messing up stop me from having fun and enjoying the process. So what if I don’t color it perfectly? It’s not a race, it’s not a competition, it’s a pleasant past time, it’s meant to help you relax and unwind, forget about your problems and just do something to enjoy yourself.

The marker colors I used are the following:

  • R39, R27, R24, R22, and R20 for the cherry;
  • C3, C1 and O markers to color the frosting;
  • E33, E31, and E51 to color the cone;
  • YG03 to color the stem on the cherry;
  • RV19, RV17, RV14, RV13, RV11, and RV10 to color the ice cream
  • B00 and B000 to color the background.

To help me color these images I went on Pinterest and I looked up colored images on ice cream, cupcakes, and cake slices. It was very helpful to see how other people have colored similar images in the past and that gave me some ideas in regards to my coloring here.

Copic markers used: Y21 (background), BG18, BG13, BG11 (cupcake wrapper); RB34, RV11, RV10 (cupcake); YG03, G94, G99 (leaves); R20, R22, R24, R27, R39 (strawberry)

To achieve that pop art look I also colored the background on my images. This is not something everyone likes to do for various reasons, some people like a white background, some don’t like to use of all marker ink to color the background, and some just don’t have the time. I personally love a nonwhite background. I do like to use the chisel nib of my marker for speedy coloring and then I just come back with the brush nib and add more color next to the stamped outline.

Copic markers used: RV10 (background); BG18, BG13, BG11 (cake); E51, E31, Y15, Y17 (cream)

Finally, to finish the card I stamped my sentiment – it reads “Sending sweet wishes your way”. I overlapped the ice cream quite a bit to have a one layer card. I also used a white Sakura pen in size 8 and 10 to add some white dots to the image – they add a nice touch to the finished card. And I used a white pen to color over the black outline that marks the highlight on the cherry.

To add some sugar to my card I used Nuvo Glitter Accents and coated the frosting on the top of the ice cream and finally use Glossy Accents to coat the cherry on top!

So many cute choices I like them all Ice cream isone of my favorite snacks… And all those legs on the homestead is super cute – that cat trying to trip up the one walking lol reminds me of here, home. You are super talented love watching your YouTube Channel.. keep rocking girl.

  1. I absolutely love them all, but I truly believe life is too short to say no to cake!!!! So that card would be my favourite. I can’t wait for all the sets to be available so I can purchase the pet lovely legs stamp set. Gorgeous

  2. I just love the ‘sweet’ cards you copic colored today! I think the ice cream cone is my favorite.(with or without the blue background)..I have many copic markers, but hardly use them…they intimidate me! You made it look so fun and easy. I’m hoping to get this stamp set…and will look to see if I have a stamp that says: You’re the cherry on top. Thanks for sharing your talent.

  3. I love your work Yana! I have to agree with you about coloring. What I find myself doing is getting myself all nervous about coloring because there are so many seasoned cardmakers that are just exceptional. so I have to stop comparing myself and just focus on getting better. I would have to say that the cupcake is probaly my fav! Thank You for the chance at the giveaway and TFS

  4. These new stamps are just fabulous! The leg stamps did not appeal to me, but I love how big and bold the sweet treats stamps are.
    I’t hard to pick a favourite card. I love them all, but I do love how you’ve coloured the ice cream cone, so I will pick that one as my favourite. I think your coloured backgrounds look awesome and add to the pop art look.

  5. Wow, what’s a big image! I love the big ice cream that you color with light blue background. Adding the glossy to the cherry, the ice cream looks even real and get dimensions. I love the size of the image that cover the whole card. I can use it as background as well. Great stamps!

  6. I think my favorite card was the ice cream cone. I love your color choices and enjoyed watching the coloring. I, too, love to color with Copic Markers. The large ice cream cone was cooling looking and since it has been so hot in Florida in recent weeks, it made me want to eat or color some ice cream!

  7. I love the Lovely Legs running set
    All 4 of my kids run…and what fun those stamps would be to send to them when they race! Love your hints and tips on coloring!

  8. They’re all very beautiful cards. My favorite is the one with the cupcake. I don’t have Copic markers yet but I think I will purchase some. Thanks for the chance.

    1. All of the new sets are awesome! I love the sentiment “Life is too short to say no to cake”, so I would have to pick the Birthday Cake set as my favorite. I know I’d use that one a LOT.

  9. All of the cards look so delicious!! I think my favorite is the ice cream. It looks so creamy and cold. I love how you colored it too!! I think this company is great, I love their Lovely Legs stamps.

  10. It’s way too difficult to choose which of your cards is my fav. You know Yana how much I love your work! You made every dessert pop from the cardstock. Brilliant work! I love all 3.

  11. Hi Yana. I’ve been following you on YouTube for a few months now and I enjoy your style very much and appreciate the inspiration you provide and well just wanted to say thanks. The new stamp sets are very exciting to me as I like coloring AND enjoy dessert everyday even if just a small bite. So, my favorite? That would have to be the big piece of cake. But technically, the cupcakes are cakes as well so…. As an aside, the fonts are all very cool too. Thanks again!

  12. Your cards are gorgeous- your coloring is fantastic! ! I do like the colored backgrounds as they make the images really pop! The size of these images are awesome. I’m intrigued by this new company- looking forward to seeing more of their products!

  13. I love the birthday cone. Beautiful job on coloring. I am like you I am afraid of coloring but the few cards I have colored for my nurses co workers, and everyone loved it. I was impressed. I’m ready to attempt more. I love watching your videos and learn so much thanks.

  14. Hi Yana I love your ice cream cone colouring. Such a great job. I prefer the coloured background. I too love copics and have made a chart using your “fishes” to keep track off great colour combos. Thank you so much for sharing this idea – works so great. I have been a follower of your posts for a long time and always look forward to seeing what you are up to.
    I love the stamps you used. Nice to have larger images.

  15. Oh, I love the Lovely Legs Stamps By Colorado Crafts! I have quite a few of their sets now. Not all by any means but I think at least 8 or 9. The Cupcake Card you did is my #1 favorite and The Ice Cream Cone would be #2. It’s too hard to pick just one of them. I’m a huge cat lover but we lost our cat about 3 years ago now and I am thinking of adopting another cat someday in the future. We have a small dog (Blondie) who was best buddies with our cat, Thumper. Blondie needs a new best buddy and I need a new best friend, other than my husband and daughter. I have the graduation set, the St.Patrick’s, a Christmas one, a Halloween set, the Military set and a few more from Colorado Crafts Lovely Legs sets. I can’t remember all of them off hand at the moment. But I can say I would love to have every set they have. And I really love the new Big & Bold collection they are starting. I can’t wait to expand my collection from them in the very, very near future. You do a beautiful job on all of your cards! I’m jealous! Have a great day and a safe & happy 4th of July!
    Sara

  16. Love all the new stamp sets, so amazing. The cake and the ice cream cone are so pretty, bu the cupcake is my favorite!! The possibilities are just flying around in my head! I’m loving the Lovely Legs too.

  17. Oh my word, just found your blog via 3C’s. Love, love, love your blog, your colouring, the cards, the 3C cards etc, etc. Favourite stamp – hmmmm toss up between the Ice cream and the Cat…………….. aargh! can’t decide……… Ice cream – no cat – ice cream – no cat. I don’t know you decide for me 🙂
