Hello and welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! In this episode, I will show you how to create paper backgrounds for your cards with the help of background stamps and colored cardstock. I call this technique “coloring with paper” and if you follow my Youtube channel you might have already seen a variation of this done with dies instead of stamps; while I’m only featuring a stamp for the cards I’m sharing today this technique can be also applied and used with your favorite dies!

VIDEO TUTORIAL
As always, I filmed a video tutorial showing how to create this project from start to finish. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy it. Watch it below or on my Youtube channel:

CARDS DETAILS
I used Simon’s Waves Background stamp and a lot of different cardstock colors from my stash. I stamped the background onto each colored cardstock panel in black ink with the help of a stamping tool.
Next, I cut my background apart creating various scenes with paper. For the first card, I started with a light green background and added two panels of light blue at the top to represent the sky. Next, I cut up several panels of darker green and also a panel of kraft to make hills and also to create roads on the panel. The kraft paper here represents a road. Very unexpected, isn’t it? Next, I figured why not add a lake? Used a piece of blue cardstock again and make a body of water.
Once I was happy with the arrangement I used glue and adhered everything down.
I made 4 various backgrounds. I suppose one could say this a new spin on the old paper piecing technique, although this is more layering paper than piecing it together in a traditional sense of the way.
If you don’t have this exact background stamp but would like to try this technique with another stamp from your stash try to look for something that would make an abstract scene and would be easy to cut out using scissors. We are doing a lot of fussy cutting here so don’t pick anything too detailed or you just won’t be able to cut it up. I love this Waves background because while it was meant to be used for waves on a card, these lines can also represent so many other things on your project.
Once you have the backgrounds made you can dress them up any way you like including leaving them blank and just adding a sentiment. I did some simple stamping and coloring to turn these into cards.
For the sunset card, I stamped a sentiment that reads “Your Light Shines from Within. Stay Strong”, it comes from Simon’s Your Light stamp set.
For my card #2 I stamped “Sending Hugs”, it comes from Simon’s Sketched Flowers set and then I added in flowers using my Sakura pens in various sizes.
For the other 2 cards, I did some stamping, coloring, and die-cutting. My sea card was finished with the help of an image of lighthouse and sailboat from the Your Light stamp set and “Let Your Dreams Set Sail” sentiment and of course more sequins, and the card with the lake was turned into a tropical resort with the help of the palm trees and hot burning sun from the Surf’s Up stamp set. Of course, I added some seagulls in the sky and more sequins to dress it up.
I hope you will give this coloring approach a try. Have fun stamping!

These are fabulous, Yana. I love them all!
OMG, you’re amazing! How creative is this!! I love how you created such different landscapes/waterscapes.
Thanks for sharing this new to me technique, Yana. Love your awesome colorful scenes. I have a wave stamp so am going to go see what I can come up with.
Now those are some really … really cool cards!!!! (Pun intended!!) What a fantastic idea, Yana, and what great backgrounds. My favorite? Hard to choose, but I think the “sending hugs” one. Your idea really makes that stamp a versatile one and great for any time of year.
Love these bright beautiful cards!
Amazing cards! They’re all quite stunning and my favorite is the sending hugs card. Your cards are great inspiration to craft more.
Oops. That was intended to be a stand alone comment. It must be Friday!
Cute ideas, you always have great inspiration for projects. I am subscribed to the hot foil monthly kit. Really enjoying it.
Such beautiful cards. I don’t subscribe any Spellbinfer die cuts. I was looking at them this week, though. Thanks for the giveaway
Bright and beautiful cards! 🙂
Bonjour Yana
Looking at your Stamped Version of the abstract scene cards, it reminds me of stained glass work. It is very beautiful and colorful.
Merci again for your YOUTUB tuto and the beautiful work. The summer tandem bycycle is driving us directly to the sea shore
