Baking on Paper or Paper Pies Cards. Video

Hello! Today I’m creating with Spellbinders and Tina Smith’s Pie Perfection collection. A word of warning – grab yourself a snack, because these dies will make you hungry and you’ll be craving a piece of the pie by the time you are done watching.

Tina Smith has a new fabulous collection with Spellbinders and it is all about baking on paper! I remember this quote – cooking is art, baking is science. When you bake you have to follow the recipe to the letter. I wouldn’t know, I don’t really cook or bake, but I do enjoy crafting with paper and this collection is really adorable to try something out of the box and new.

The collection features 8 products – there are 3 die sets to create various pies (sky view, perfect pies, serve a slice), a set with decorations, a set to make a box for the pies, a sentiment set with adorable matching messages, and a stencil.

I’ve found my paper pies looked better and a lot more mouth-watering when I ink blended the “dough” with some brown ink. This way they really looked baked – with some parts darker, even a bit burned, because I’m sure I would lightly burn my first pie and some pieces lighter.

To make the crust look dimensional and more realistic I die-cut identical crust pieces from fun foam and stacked the two die cuts together. I also ink blended the white side of the foam to make it brown.

If you add many layers to your pie and want to die cut a slice, I‘ve found it is best to do that before you adhere all the components together.  To add more dimension to my pies, I didn’t want them to be flat, so I die-cut a base from fun foam and adhered the pies onto the fun foam piece. It doesn’t change the look of the pie on camera, but when you see it in real life you can see the dimension, and it gives a better overall impression.
