Hello there! Thank you so much for stopping by today to help celebrate Alcohol Marker Release from Altenew. This is something completely new and absolutely incredible! I remember how excited I was when Altenew came out with their first ink pads 2 years ago – they did not disappoint one bit. Hopefully, these markers won’t either (I am extremely happy with them so far).

I’ll admit, I was very skeptical about these markers from Altenew. I have Copics, I have Chameleon Pens, I even have Trimcraft First Edition Markers (also alcohol based). I didn’t think I’d like these by Altenew. But you never judge the book by its cover (not that there’s something wrong with the “cover” of these markers). I gave them a try – and oh boy!
I first tested these markers on a piece of Simon’s 120 LB White Cardstock (I love this paper for Copic coloring) – I colored from light to dark to see how the colors would blend, tried both nibs to see how they apply ink. I loved the result!
Next, I grabbed a sheet of Neenah Solar White paper (this is my most used paper for stamping) and stamped Altenew Adore You flowers and leaves using Simon’s Intense Black ink.
You can use these markers with Altenew existing inks for “no-line coloring” technique. You do have to use alcohol-friendly ink to color with these, so you can’t stamp ouline images with Altenew crisp dye inks and color, the outline will bleed.
The marker set being released today contains reds, blues and greens so I decided to use reds and greens to color my images. I went with “from dark to light” application and first added my darkest color, next my medium and blended everything with the lightest. I later came in with the darkest color again to intensify the shadows.
I did find those harder to blend on Neenah vs Simon’s 120 LB paper, but it’s harder to blend Copics there too. I will definitely have to play with these markers some more to learn more about them, but my initial impression is WOW.
One of the reasons I was on the fence about these at first is I decided to really commit to growing my Copic collection and to get to know my Copic markers better (I recently did Favorite Copic Color Combo chart & post). This was just my personal reason. Nonetheless, these markers from Altenew are a great alternative to Copics. I don’t want to do a comparison, but I will say – they are really great (and nobody is asking me to say/write this, I truly enjoyed using them). One thing I loved – the colors, like with Altenew inks, are grouped together for easy blending. I don’t know how well future colors will blend (and I don’t know if there will be future colors or if there will be re-inkers or replacement nibs), but they do take the guesswork of what colors to use together now.
I cut my colored images out and used a black marker to color the edges of the paper to hide the white. This set comes with a black marker, so I didn’t even have to reach for my Copic black. I also used a white gel pen and drew white dots in the flower centers.
I went with my Perfect Cardmaking formula and used an elegant gold trim, pretty paper – Spicy Yogurt, foam mounted flowers and leaves on top, added a simple Thank You sentiment and finished this card off with a few Rose Gold sequins and clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh.
Before I go here’s a photo of my initial test doodling/drawing/sketching with these markers. I always appreciate photos like these, so I hope you’ll find it useful too (click to enlarge):

WOW Yana, this is gorgeous! I just KNEW they were going to have gorgeous colours!
Whoops, I forgot to answer your question: I have only began my Copic collection a year ago so I don’t have many yet.
I appreciate your honest review. The colors are beautiful, and I like that there’s a brush nib and a bullet tip.
Gorgeous card! I do have Copics but I love that these match the Altenew inks. Definitely a must-have.
Wow! Your card is beautiful! I have quite a collection of Copic markers and one part of me says I don’t need something else, but being practical isn’t often part of my craft shopping. I am thinking I will have to try these.
Thanks for being honest about how you felt in the beginning. Yes, I do have alcohol markers. They are spectrum noir. I have about half the collection. I’m so stuck about this also. I like the markers I’m not a expert with them by no means. But, I’m just confused do I try some of the newer markers or stick with what I have and finish the collection.
I love your card it is truly beautiful,. You did a wonderful joy in coloring, TFS. I have many Copic markers, and a few Spectrum noir markers. But I’m always looking for other markers.
I have alcohol based markers but in crafting, you can always use more of everything. Beautiful card!
The flowers are beautiful.
there is so much depth – the shading is fantastic.
I’m wasn’t too sure about the tips but I’ll take your
word that they are great.

Gorgeous coloring with these markers and I like the gold trim.
Fantastic coloring! I also like that these markers are grouped together for blending, the colors are wonderful.
Beautiful card! I don’t have copics so am looking forward to trying out Altenew’s markers. I love that they come in color-families and match Altenew’s inks.

Your card is beautiful! I am so excited about these markers.
Yana –
thank you for your critique on the Altenew markers…. I have been using Copic markers for only a short time, so wasn’t sure if I really needed to try something new (or just wanted to)! Now I see that I MUST…. and I love your card!
Gorgeous card.
Your card is lovely, so excited about these markers
Yana , your cardmaking designs amaze me. I just love your style.
Yana….once again, you’ve taken my breath away with your artistry! Gorgeous card and fabulous showcase/review of the new markers! I’m daunted by the price of copics, living where I do in Canada, (which explains why I have but a handful that I don’t use because none blends with another…sighhhh) so these are a marvelous, fresh alternative! Love that they match the inks, which I do have and love! Thank you for the inspiration….

It’s amazing…your “formula” works every time. I never time of it. I Thanks for mentioning how the markers blend on various card stocks. I guess I’ll need to try them on a few others when I get the markers. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful creation! You’re coloring is stunning. Yes, I have many Spectrum Noirs, several Copics but know I think I need these from Altenew. I love their inks and how well they coordinate. These look pretty sweet.
I am like you in just having the right set of copics and refills right now, so am more interested in Altenews set that match markers! Really helpful points you bring up and learning so much from each of you.

Love your card and the colors you used!
Such a beautiful card. I love altenew inks and I’m super excited about these markers.
What a gorgeous card! Thank you for sharing your experience with coloring with these markers. I have heavily invested in my Copic markers, but the one thing I wish Copic would offer is a pen with a brush and a bullet nib, like they did with their anniversary set. I just find myself using the chisel tip.
stunning work. Love your style
Wonderfully elegant card and beautifully colored. Thanks for sharing your test sheet:)
Such a lovely card that shows how soft these colours blend, as well as how intense they get. Your card is stunning, Yana!
Love your card. Can’t wait to try the markers!
Beautiful card. I love the way the new alcohol pens from Altenew color . Thanks for the heads up and the lesson. Your opinion really is important because we are all on a budget and it helps to have someone with experience let us know how these supplies really work. So THANKS for that!!
Your card is absolutely stunning, Yana!

Beautiful gorgeous coloring!!!!
What an elegant card! I’m amazed at the vibrancy of these markers. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on and tests of the markers.
