Tips & Tricks For Hot Foil Holiday Cards. Video

Hello, friends! I wanted to share a video I filmed for Spellbinders back in August showcasing several Glimmer Hot Foil cards featuring the Holiday Glimmer 2019 products. The video shares a lot of tips about Hot Foil Stamping, many of which were already mentioned in this post (but it’s always good to see additional examples of same techniques).

I love Glimmer! I love to foil all the things around me and Glimmer and I are like BBF these days. Fun fact, last year, when Glimmer first came out, I was very skeptical about this tool, I didn’t think I’d need it in my craft corner, I didn’t think I’d like it, and I certainly did not think I would enjoy it. Little did I know how fabulous this machine is and how much I was going to love working with it.

FOILING ON PHOTOS

I bet you didn’t know you could foil on photos. Yes! You can add beautiful foiled effects to your photographs and think about all those gorgeous holiday photos you take with your family if you wanted to turn one of them into a Christmas card all you need to do is add a foiled sentiment and you are ready to wow the recipients.

Here’s my take on foiling on photos – I made a very simple and quick Holiday card featuring a fun Christmas photo of me and my hubby next to our Christmas tree. I foiled Peace on Earth over the black and white photo in Matte Gold foil.

Your foiled results will wary depending on what kind of paper you print your photos. I printed on glossy photo paper, matte foil looked especially beautiful here.

OFFSET FOILING

If you are not into foiling over photos, you can try offset or shadow foiling – here I foiled Season’s Greetings in back foil first (to create a shadow) and matte gold offsetting slightly to reveal just a bit of the black under gold. It looks so pretty!

HOT FOILING AND HEAT EMBOSSING

Finally, the last card I have for you today features both hot foiling and heat embossing. What’s tricky about it, you ask? Well, not much, aside the fact that you need to remember to foil first and heat emboss later.
