STAMPtember! Avery Elle – Reindeer Wishes | Video

Hello and happy STAMPTember! Today I’m super excited to show you one of the new STAMPtember exclusive collaboration sets called Reindeer Wishes by Avery Elle. I adore the large reindeer in this set decorated with Christmas ornaments! So cute! This image is rather large and easily fills an A2 card.

I started working on my card by stamping the reindeer in Memento Tuxedo black ink onto white cardstock using my mini MISTI stamping tool. I am all about creating dramatic cards and I do that by using dark backgrounds. My plan for this card was to stamp and color the reindeer on white cardstock, cut it out right up to the edge, and pop it up on a dark background.

To color the deer I first penciled in some face detail. I used an E79 marker and drew marker lines over the pencil lines. From there, I extended that color into the center of his face and went lighter using E37, E33, and E31 markers.

Next, I used the E31 to color the rest of the deer and added a bit of shading using the same color markers I used before – just a little bit of shading on his neck to help him look dimensional. I tried to keep my coloring very simple and approachable. Next, I used C7 and E79 to color his nose, I needed to add the C7 to darken the E79 a bit.

Lastly, I colored his ears using again the same dark-blown colors skipping the E31 and adding E51 in the center.

His collar was colored red using R39, R27, and R22, and the jingle bells were colored yellow using a Y35 marker.

Next, I brought in red, green, pink, and teal to color the ornaments. I first applied my lightest color to the entire ornament, and next added the darkest color to one of the sides to create a deep shadow and blended it in using a medium shade before going back to the lightest color and blending it all out.

I used R22, R39, and R27 for the red ornaments, RV00, RV34, and RV10 for the pink ornaments, YG01, YG67, and YG03 for the green ornaments, and BG11, BG18, and BG13 for the teal ornaments. The ornament toppers were colored silver by using cool gray markers – the C5, C3, and C1.

To add interest, texture, and highlights I used a white pen. I first added dots onto the deer neck and ears and then added a highlight onto each of the ornaments.

I used scissors and fussy cut the images out. I cut the images separately – so I have the deer head, and the ornaments, I didn’t cut the antlers as they were just thin lines and it didn’t make sense to cut them out since I was cutting right up to the edge. I foiled a Merry Christmas sentiment in Matte Gold foil onto black cardstock and heat embossed deer above it.

Next, I used Simon’s thin foam adhesive squares in black and popped each of the cutout pieces up. This added a touch of dimension to the card, but not too much. I also stamped, colored, and cut out a poinsettia and several fur branches using the Simon Says Stamp Gift Wrap stamp set. This added a whimsical touch to my deer and helped add a bit more color to the card. I also worked well with the collar and the red and green ornaments.

Lastly, I used a white pen and dotted some snow. You could use stencil land texture paste for the background to create some pretty dimensional snowflakes if you wanted, I like to keep my cards pretty simple and it seems that a white pen is my most used tool when it comes to creating snow.
