Pretty Pink Posh | Spring Crocuses Card (Blog Hop + Giveaway)

Pretty Pink Posh | Spring Crocuses Card by Yana Smakula featuring Polychromos Pencil Coloring

Hello there! In the middle Winter I can’t help but long for Spring – longer, sunnier days with fresh rains and beautiful blooms coming from under the snow. What could be better? Today I have a Spring inspired card featuring beautiful crocus flowers from Pretty Pink Posh.

Surprisingly, I used to not like this flower, but as I grow older it appeals to me more and more.

CARD DETAILS

Sometime ago I mentioned that I go through “coloring phases” – I color using just Copics, or just Watercolors and these days, it seems, I like to color with my colored pencils, Polychromos by Faber Castell, only. I love the texture these pencils add to my cards and I especially adore using them for floral images.

To create this card I used my mini MISTI stamping tool and stamped several flowers & grass images in VersaFine Onyx Black ink on light blue cardstock (it’s that new paper I’ve been hinting about in one of my previous posts, I still can’t share more about it, but soon!). I kept the images in the MISTI (to be able to re-stamp the outline) and colored them with the help of my Polychromos pencils.

I used the following colors: #101 White, #138 Violet, #136 Purple Violet, #249 Mauve, #171 Light Green, #112 Leaf Green, #226 Permanent Green, #267 Pine Green, #108 Dark Cadmium Yellow, #111 Cadmium Orange.

Once my coloring was done I replaced the panel in the stamping tool and restamped the outlines to have them look darker. I also used my heat tool to dry the ink as it takes longer to dry and absorb into the paper once stamped over pencil coloring. The images I used, for the most part, came from the Crocus Flower stamp set, the little yellow buds are from Cherry Blossoms set.

After die-cutting the images out with the help of coordinating dies I foam mounted them onto a panel of same blue cardstock cut to 3 3/4 x 5 1/2. I stamped a simple “With Love” sentiment in black ink and added horizontal score lines to the background. Lastly, I embellished my card using jewels from the Sugar Plum mix.

  1. I love crocus flowers! They are one of the first to bloom in spring and are a beautiful sign of hope. You’ve brought out that quality with this card, Yana. Lovely!

  2. Yana, your card is GORGEOUS! LOVE your coloring with the Faber Castell Pencils & the sugary looking glitter you’ve added to them! They look LOVELY on the CAS background you’ve created too! 😉 A GORGEOUS CARD!!!

  3. Crocuses are the harbingers of spring in my area. As such they are most welcome. I like your coloring with you favorite pencils.

  4. These crocuses sure do remind me of spring, especially when it’s just above zero degrees outside! Thanks for the inspiration of knowing that spring is only a card away!

  5. Gorgeous cards – I just adore these crocuses and all of PPP’s flowers! And the lace glitter glue just takes it over the stop. Love your tip about restamping after coloring!

  6. Beautiful coloring with Polychromos!! I would love to be able to color like you! The colors you chose are dazzling!!

  7. That’s so beautiful, Yana! Love these crocuses, the colouring is fab, and I love that embossing that you did on the background – I keep forgetting to do that myself, I need to try remembering!

  8. I don’t see my previous comment, so I’ll try again. I love this card, it’s absolutely beautiful! The colouring is fab, the crocuses are gorgeous, and the scoring of the background is so amazing!

  9. I seem to be having problems with leaving comments, but I’ll try again 🙁 That stamp set is so gorgeous, and your colouring is fab. I also really love the scoring you did on the background – adds a nice touch. Well done, gorgeous card!

  10. Yana, these purple crocuses really pop with the polychromo pencils that you used and the black outline; of course you already knew that! I can never seem to remember to do that re-outlining technique. I did emboss my last card’s flower outline but could not get my pencils into the smaller crevices. Thanks for sharing and I am intrigued about the blue paper you are hinting at!

  11. These are so lovely…my crocuses in my front yard are the 1st flowers to pop “announcing the end of winter”. The colored pencils you used are perfect colors. I always look forward to seeing them when spring approaches.

  12. Love all your ideas! My fav are flowers and love the crocus so I ordered the set. You really inspired me with your beautiful cards. I don’t miss your blog! Keep up your creative ideas!

  13. These colors look so realistic. Crocus is always such a spring surprise. Can’t wait for you to share about the blue paper. It look like water…..

  14. Just stunning!! Love these pretty flowers, the purple & the sparkly stickles is
    a perfect embellishment.
