Hello crafters. Today I have a hot foil Birthday card tutorial to share featuring products from my new Yana’s Blooms collection with Spellbinders. My new collection launched just recently, on January 14th, 2022 and you can find it in the Spellbinders online store as well as at select retailers online (I have links below).

One of the key products in my Yana’s Blooms collection is the Magnolia Glimmer Blooms glimmer hot foil plate – it is a beautiful magnolia cluster. Magnolia is one of my favorite flowers and so I wanted to have a beautiful magnolia to use for my cards. I foiled this cluster in Matte Gold foil on SSS #130 cardstock.
There’s also a coordinating die included with the glimmer plate, to help you cut the foiled design out. You have beautiful outline blooms and solid leaves with some detail added to them. I wanted to have some solid foiled elements to this magnolia, so I made the leaves solid.

CARD DETAILS
This magnolia cluster was designed with coloring in mind. I love to color with Copic markers, so I wanted to be able to color this image. If you look up magnolias online you’ll notice that magnolias are usually white with just a hint of color at the base of the petals, this is the look I was going for when making this card.
I used RV09 and RV11 markers to flick the base color. The foil resists the alcohol ink, although you can color it using your alcohol markers, but you’ll be able to erase the coloring using a colorless blender or a very light color marker. Next, I used RV00 and flicked the color well into the center of the petals.
If you want to add even more detail, some finer details, perhaps, you can use a colored pencil for that. I used my Polychromos colored pencil from Faber Castel, I don’t remember the exact colors.
I wanted to a landscape birthday card. For this, I have already foiled and cut out a large script word “birthday”. The glimmer plate that foils Birthday comes from the Splatter Sentiments set and the coordinating die to cut the Birthday comes from Yana’s Layered Scrips Sentiments. So the sentiment is available in both die and glimmer form, but only the die form has a coordinating die.
The Splatter Sentiments glimmer set also includes additional words to help you build your sentiment. You can foil Happy Birthday, On Your Birthday, or Happy Birthday Wishes. I also foiled the background using Diagonal Glimmer Stripes plate – I foiled it in Opal foil on Simon’s Fog cardstock. The Opal foiling gives a very subtle result, a tone-on-tone look. It is very classy and very elegant. If you haven’t tried using the Opal foil yet – I can’t recommend it enough for backgrounds like this.
I also added splatter and “on your” foiled directly over the background. The Splatter Sentiments set comes with 3 plates to create splatters on your card. I love the look of splatter, but if I create it organically, I can never get it to look perfect, so I designed these glimmer plates to give me perfect splatters every time.
Next, I adhered my background to an A2 white top folding card base. I foam mounted the magnolia cluster and finally, I overlapped the magnolia and foam mounted the word Birthday on top. I added glue to secure the part of the Birthday that was overlapping the flower.
Lastly, I added Spellbinders Crystal Mix gems (just the white gems), they almost look white and go really well with the opal foiling in the background.
I hope you like it! Have fun (hot foil) stamping!

so glad you like it! thank you, Cheri.
Just lovely. Was happy to see that we can successfully foil a number of items on each card. They came out great! Thank you for showing this to us.
thank you, Patricia. Yes, with a bit of practice we can overlap foiling and foil multiples on the same panel.
