A long time ago I made a collection of cards for a magazine publication featuring Spellbinders Open House dies and a plethora of addons. I nearly forgot about these projects until I found the photos of the cards on my laptop – I loved every single card I made. Sharing them with you in this post.
The publication was in a Spring issue of Die-cutting Essentials magazine, so most cards have a Spring vibe. All supplies are linked at the end of this post.
HOUSE #47
I wanted to add a special touch to this front door, so I added a random house number by die-cutting numbers from gold mirror cardstock. I love this special little touch. If you need to make a card for a new neighbor you can personalize it by adding their house or apartment number.
Instructions:
- Die-cut door, side panels, topiary, and flowers from colored cardstock. Assemble die cuts.
- Shape flowers using medium size stylus.
- Create a 3 ¼ x 6 ¼” white card base.
- Dry emboss a 3 ¼ x 6 ¼” panel using the Diagonal Stripes Slimline embossing folder. Adhere panel to the card base.
- Foam mount assembled door.
- Die-cut house numbers from Mirror Gold cardstock and foam. Adhere gold number onto the foam and adhere to the card.
- Embellish flowers with gems
LOVE LETTER CARD
The Valentine’s Day add-on to the Open House collection is simply adorable! I know we are far from Valentine’s Day, but this add-on can be adapted to Wedding season.
Instructions:
- Die-cut door, Valentines, and flowers from colored cardstock. Assemble die cuts.
- Shape flowers using medium size stylus.
- Create a 3 ¼ x 6 ¼” white card base.
- Dry emboss a 3 x 6” panel using the Optical Arches embossing folder. Foam mount panel to the card base.
- Foam mount assembled door.
- Embellish with flowers and hearts
- Embellish flowers with gems.
HOPPY DAY
Equally adorable is the Easter add-on. Again, we are past the Easter season, but the die cuts are versatile and fabulous for making Easter cards for years and years to come.
Instructions:
- Die-cut door, side panels, bunny, and flowers from colored cardstock. Assemble die cuts. Add blush to the bunny’s cheeks using an RV00 Copic marker
- Shape flowers using medium size stylus.
- Create a 3 ½ x 6 ½” white card base.
- Dry emboss a 3 ¼ x 6 ¼” panel using a Loops embossing folder. Foam mount panel to the card base.
- Foam mount assembled door.
- Embellish with wreath, flowers, and leaves
- Embellish flowers with gems
OPEN HOUSE HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARD
The Open House collection has so many different additions, you can use them to make cards all year round. I love the front door mat and I equally adore the stairs die. Here I adapted the 3-stair die to a 2-stair die to make a smaller composition to fit an A2 card.
Instructions:
- Die-cut door, steps, bunny, balloons, and flowers from colored cardstock. Assemble die cuts. Add blush to the bunny’s cheeks using an RV00 Copic marker
- Trim the top step off to create shorter steps. Adhere door onto the steps.
- Shape flowers using medium size stylus.
- Create A2 white card base.
- Dry emboss a 4 x 5 ¼” panel using a Loops embossing folder. Foam mount panel to the card base.
- Foam mount assembled door.
- Foam mount bunny, balloons.
- Embellish with wreath, flowers, and leaves
- Embellish flowers with gem
Tip: You can alter your die cuts to suit the size of the card you want to make. I trimmed the top step and created a 2-steps piece instead of 3-steps piece to make sure the finished door would fin on an A2 card.
FOR YOU CARD
And last but not least is a For You card. This is a tall Slimline project featuring a beautiful staircase adorned with some bright greenery and florals.
Instructions:
- Die-cut door, steps, envelope, greenery, and flowers from colored cardstock. Assemble die cuts.
- Shape flowers using medium size stylus.
- Create slimline 3 ½ x 8 ½” card base.
- Dry emboss a 3 ½ x 8 ½” panel using the Geo Screen embossing folder. Adhere panel to the card base.
- Foam mount assembled door.
- Embellish with greenery, flowers, and leaves
- Embellish flowers with gems
Open House collection, similar to the Sunday Drive is absolutely adorable. The abundance of add-ons makes it always new – there are so many ways to put elements together. To me these dies feel like LEGO for crafters.

These cards are great. Really liked the one with the mail slot and the letter hanging out of it. Elevating the door panels really made quite a statement. Thanks for sharing these ideas. Thoughts and prayers sent to you.
