Spellbinders | Colored Cardstock Poppies "Celebrate" Card by Yana Smakula. Using S4-815 Poppies Dies #diecutting #spellbinders #handmadecard

Hello everyone and thank you so much for joining us today for a very first Spellbinders inspirational blog hop! There are 3 new collections that are being released this month from Spellbinders and there are a lot of talented designers joining this hop and sharing gorgeous projects using various products from these new releases.

I picked the Spellbinders Classics – Lavender & Poppies collection to share with you as it’s one of my favorite. This collection includes a number of dies that feature stunning images of poppies and lavender in various interpretations.

As of September 2016 I work as an in-house creative designer at Spellbinders office in Phoenix. While I do a lot of work for them and create a number of different projects I am only sharing what I truly love made using their products here on my blog. I do not and never will share projects or mention products I not love.

CARD DETAILS

I had the pleasure with working with the Lavender & Poppies (Spellbinders Classics) collection back during Summer as I made all the projects you can find on the packaging of these dies. It was quite a challenge, but I had lots of fun bringing all of these dies to life.

The card I picked to share today is the one I like best. I die-cut & embossed the poppy out of green and red cardstock. While keeping the red die cut in the die I stencilled a bit of red ink over it to help the petals pop. To darken the centers I used my black Copic marker and simply colored the center of the flowers black.

I snipped the red flowers off the red stems and foam mounted them onto the green stems to complete my flowers.

To finish this card I picked pretty patterned paper (unfortunately, I don’t remember the exact name or manufacturer of the patterned paper), trimmed it to 4 x 5 1/4″ and distressed the edges using the blade of my Tim Holtz scissors (you can also use a paper distresser, but I find I am able to get same results using scissors). I backed this panel up with a red panel and ripped the edges in a few places for an even more worn out look.

If you look closely you can notice I added red beads into the ripped sections – I simply poured a lot of glue and added lots of beads on top. I feel they add a very nice touch to this card.

Finally, I stamped a simple “Celebrate” sentiment in black ink and foam mounted it onto the card.

Poppies are very popular in Ukraine and since this is where I come from this collection is very dear to me. It was such a pleasure making these cards and I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to work with these dies again in the future.

MORE INSPIRATION

Like I mentioned I made many more cards using dies from the Lavender & Poppies (Spellbinders Classics) collection. Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. The red beads in the ripped sections of the card are gorgeous!!! I love that look. Very detailed work. 🙂

  2. I’m trying to find some different words to use to talk about your first poppy card. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I can’t find any other word: WOW! I love the first poppy card. It is just GORGEOUS (here I go sounding like a broken record!). Really, Yana. I don’t know how you out-do yourself!!!! Beautiful cards — especially the “celebrate” one. Love these new dies. And thank you for sharing a bit more about Ukraine. I really appreciate your sharing about it. As always, thank you, Yana!! And thanks for the blog hop!!

  3. After seeing these examples, I will look more closely at dies like these. Your cards are out of the box on so many levels (like the red beads–so cool!) and beyond beautiful. Thank you.

  4. Love the details with the seed beads! I’m still new to cardmaking and I don’t have a die cutting machine, so no Spellbinders dies, but these are beautiful! Thank you for sharing! 🙂

  5. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cards…those red poppies, in particular, are gorgeous! I also appreciate you reminding me that I can distress things; sometimes I forget about a particular technique and it’s nice to be reminded. I am currently waiting on my next Spellbinder card and die kit – these are so much fun.

  6. It is all your fault that I fell in love with spellbinders! Seriously, I came across your works on pinterest and found myself liking more and more of your works. I’ve been thrilled with all of the spellbinders dies that I’ve purchased to date. Thanks for the inspiration.

  7. Your poppy card is truly lovely (well, they all are actually!) and I love the touch with the beads in the torn areas of the paper. Such great inspiration!

  8. The layers are just delicious! Better than a beautiful chocolate layer cake! LOL and without the calories.

  9. I love that now that you are in Arizona, you are using hot peppers in your photography! The cards are beautiful.

  10. The poppies card is so clever with the torn spot and red beads. I also really like the lavender card with the little postmark paper hidden underneath. Lovely cards. They will bring a smile to someone!

  11. Hi, such fun cards, I have the Spellbinders A2 Scalloped Borders One set and the A2 Bracket Borders One set, very versatile die sets!

  12. Gorgeous cards Yana! Love that patterned paper! I have so much paper that just sits there and I really need to get it out and use it! Thanks for the inspiration! Love these new Spellbinders dies! They are fantastic! Loving this blog hop with all it’s talent. Thanks for sharing yours!!

  13. I love, love, love the poppy dies! I love the way you used them to make the poppy card.

  14. Such a unique and dimensional design for the card. The layering of distressed paper and beads really makes the poppy stand out. At the risk of being too “punny”, it really “Pops”! Thank you for sharing such wonderful inspiration.

  15. Love the little details such as stressing the edges and adding the beads. Clever and shows off the card so much! You really did show off those dies! Great job!

  16. Wow! Yana,I just love your eye for the little details.Stunning cards. The distressed ,torn areas with beads, Brilliant!.

  17. Ooooooo! I am spellbound by this gorgeous creation! I love how you added the beads to the distressed areas, the black centers for the poppies and the background Paper is perfect! You always inspire me with your Lovely creations!
You second and third cards are also beautiful! TFS!

  18. Beautiful cards! I love this new release from Spellbinders. I’m a newbie card maker and just finding Spellbinders dies. I recently purchased his Broken Maze die. Can’t wait to add to my collection and play.

  19. Oh I love your cards! Setting the poppies against the script background is perfect and of course using red is THE best.

  20. Beautiful cards! Lavender and poppies are two of my favorite flowers and you did a wonderful job displaying them.

  21. Beautiful card. The colours are just gorgeous and the little pile of beads is something different that sets this card out from others. I love the poppy die.

  22. I am so impressed with your card. It is just lovely. I am 85 yrs. young and I do enjoy the process of card making. It’s very challenging, but when people like you share their talent…it helps so much for people like me. TFS your God given talent to the paper crafting world.
