Simon Says Stamp | You Make Life Beautiful Pencil Colored Card

Simon Says Stamp | You Make Life Beautiful Pencil Colored Card by Yana Smakula

Believe it or not, I am actually running dangerously low on my black cardstock! I’ve been using it plus gold embossing powder a lot lately creating very different looking cards. Today I have another one of those cards to share with you!

CARD DETAILS

I started working on this project by stamping Simon’s Kaleidoscope Leaves background in clear embossing ink onto black cardstock. I used my MISTI stamp positioner to help me get a nice crisp impression.

Next, I covered the entire panel with Simon’s Antique Gold embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool. To add a pop of color to this background I used my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils in Cobalt Green and Cobalt Turquoise and colored each of the leaves in. This process takes a bit of time, but I think the result is well worth it. If you are new to coloring with pencils on black cardstock be sure to watch THIS video for more information.

I trimmed my colored panel to 4 x 5 1/4″ and foam mounted onto an A2 white card base.

To create a sentiment for this card I first stamped Darling using letters from the Grid Play Alpha set in black ink onto white cardstock and next heat embossed offsetting just a fraction of an inch in same Antique Gold embossing powder. Also heat embossed “you make life beautiful” from the You Got This stamp set.

Finally, I foam mounted both of my sentiment piece onto the card. I paired this project with Simon’s Soft Navy envelope for a perfect look.

Hero Arts | Have A Blessed Christmas Card

Hello friends! Today I have a Holiday card to share I created for Hero Arts 2017 Winter catalog.…

  1. Wowww!! Gorgeous!! The heat embossing really brings out all the details of the intricate design in the stamp! And what lovely colors you have chosen! I’m in lovvveee with this card!! <3

  2. WOW is all I can say. This is gorgeous and you are can really make wonderful backgrounds, I’ll call you Queen. You have a knack for knowing when to stop adding color. Using the one color (two shades) on black is stunning! It just glows.

  3. What a stunning card! I love the background and the coloring with pencils is just beautiful! Thanks you so much for sharing!

  4. Beautiful card–I love all the colored pencil on black cards that you’ve made recently. Want to give it a try.

  5. You make such AMAZING works of art. You have an eye for color and technique that I can only dream about – – – or CASE. Thanks for the inspiration.

  6. Wow, this is absolutely gorgeous!! Love the gold on black but then the hint of colour just adds so much. So classy!

  7. I love these cards with colored pencil on black cardstock; I’d REALLY love to see a video of your process!

  8. This is a beautiful card! The teal-ish color is my favorite color. I know you have said before that you prefer Polychromos over Prismas, but it would be much easier to color on black with the Prismas. The reason is that Polychromos are translucent, while Prismas are opaque. That means you would not have to work so hard to lay day down vibrant color. Most artists who are familiar with colored pencils will tell you this.

  9. Beautiful card, Yana. I love the big background stamp from Simon, AND I’ve always loved good pencil work. Are there enough hours in the day to create with all the mediums we love so much? It’s a good thing I’m retired (she smiles). Put that order in for some more black cardstock – soon! *lol*

  10. You are so talented. I am always inspired to try new things after seeing your creations. Love how you see things:)
