I was browsing Pinterest for ideas the other day and came across this book cover. I loved the clean, modern design and felt like it was something I could re-create with my stamps. And so I did! I love the simplicity of this card.

CARD DETAILS
I first stamped the “sea” portion of the background using Simon Says Stamp Out To Sea background stamp. I used Hero Arts Watermark ink for a tone on tone look and stamped image using MISTI stamping tool on Hero Arts Arctic cardstock. I did try and color the background using Copic B00 marker, I was curious to see what would happen if I colored over embossing ink. Nothing remarkable, lol. So I cut the colored part off using my paper trimmer and also cut along the lines of the waves using my scissors creating a wavy top for this background.
Next, I needed to make a large cloud. What could I use for this? The coordinating die to cut the waves from the new Be a Mermaid stamp set seemed like a good fit. It doesn’t necessarily provide the cloud shape, but it does make an interesting, somewhat abstract piece. So I cut a panel of white cardstock using that coordinating die. After all, I LOVE to stretch my supplies.
I used a panel of Audrey Blue cardstock for the sky portion of this background. I adhered my clouds panel and my sea panel onto the sky panel. Next, I stamped the sentiment – I used one the reads “Wish You Were Here” and a sub sentiment “Missing You”. I adore the large bold font in this sentiment stamp set.
Something was missing. So I stamped a lighthouse in Simon’s Intense Black ink and colored it using Copic markers – B00, B02, B04, C1, C3, C5, E37. I cut it out using a coordinating die and foam mounted onto the card. I stamped rays of light coming from the lighthouse and seagulls flying around my sentiment. Lastly, I added white sequins from Simon’s April Showers sequins set.
It’s been a while (or at least it feels like it’s been a long time) since I made a simple card like this. I love the result. I have it sitting on my desk now as I type this post. I’ll probably keep it for now.

Great card.thank you.
Beautiful recreation Yana! I’ve had a thing with mermaids lately and especially after The Simon Says Stamp new release of “Be a Mermaid”. I’ve been trying to decide which background I want and and then saw your waves. You’ve definitely inspired me, not only with my mermaid but beyond. I love your card!
