Hello, friends, and happy Friday! Today marks the new release from Simon Says Stamp – Holly Jolly! And while the name suggests it is a Holiday one, this release boasts a gorgeous set of 3D embossing folders to be used all year round. I have a video tutorial to share showcasing an inking technique and a set of 3 cards made using one of the folders from this release.
I’m inviting you to come back tomorrow for another set of cards featuring a different technique with these folders. Let’s dive in!

CARD DETAILS
Here are a few tips I’ve discovered while working on these cards:
Tip #1: Use pigment inks to ink your embossing folders
I’ve found I get the best results when I ink the embossing folders using pigment inks. I used Avery Elle pigment inks for these cards, but I think any other pigment inks would work for this, try what you have in your stash. Distress Oxide inks might also work well, give them a try if you have Oxides in your stash.
Tip #2: Apply ink directly to the embossing folder
I tried various application methods, and going directly to the embossing folder with my ink pad seemed to work the best, it gave my soft subtle results. I also used a brayer to apply ink. Using a brayer works well if you plan to use just one color of ink, if you use several ink colors the edges between the colors end up being too harsh.
Tip #3: Use thick cardstock for embossing with 3D embossing folders
While I didn’t mention this during my video, it is best to use thick cardstock for embossing with 3D Embossing folders. This will give a deeper embossed image. Some papers take ink differently, so if you are not getting the results you want – try switching up to a different brand of cardstock for your embossing/inking.
I’ve really enjoyed working with these embossing folders – they give beautiful, impressive results in just minutes. Plus, there are many beautiful techniques to be used with the embossing folders and I plan to explore them as I continue playing with these tools.
Have fun creating!

Thanks for the video, Yana. Love your work. I wish we had been able to see more holiday- or fall-themed items. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the video.

Beautiful cards! It is refreshing to me to NOT see just holiday/seasonal ideas right now. These would be lovely multi-use cards… b-day, greetings, sympathy…. An idea for those that are concerned re stamp pad contamination would be to use daybeds at the intersecting areas, they work nicely! Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and posting a nicely demonstrated video
Ha! Spellcheck strikes again… Daubers, not daybeds!!
haha, I was just about to ask what daybeds are lol 😀 thank you, Mari!
Beautiful cards.
Beautiful colors and lovely cards!
I love your demo on how to ink the embossing folder. Thanks for showing that to us! Pretty cards and I like the lighter versions, also.
Love your cards! Beautiful folders.
Such feminine cards! And talk about something gorgeous that one could mass produce to make gifts!
