Simon Says Stamp | Keep Going – Easy Watercolor Background Card

Hello friends! I feel like it’s been ages since I posted last (my Mom was visiting me from Ukraine and I was trying to spend as much time with her as possible). I will slowly be getting back to my regular posting schedule – I have lots of cards to share, many ideas in my head for videos to film and a few fun instagram stories to tell! I hope you’ve missed me, because I sure missed all of you!

Today I have a rather simple card to share featuring a very easy watercolor background. I actually made this card back in September and never got around to posting it.

CARD DETAILS

I started working on this project by creating a watercolor background using my Daniel Smith watercolors. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the exact colors I used. I think you should be able to get this look by using non traditional watercolors, too (like Distress inks).

To create this look I wet my paper first and added different colors onto the paper letting them mix and interact before drying them with my heat tool. This way I was able to achieve very soft edges and soft blends of colors.

Once my background was dry I trimmed it to 4 x 5 1/4″ and heat embossed Fractile Leaves over it in Gold embossing powder. You can tell the leaves were embossed after the watercolor and not before since the color didn’t pool around the heat embossed lines but flowed freely under them.

I foam mounted my background onto an A2 side folding card base and added a very simple encouraging sentiment – Keep Going, Don’t Give Up, Have Faith. This sentiment came from You Got This stamp set and was heat embossed in white powder onto black cardstock. I also used black foam adhesive to foam mount these skinny strips onto my card.
